Last Mother’s Day, I was bursting at the seams to tell you guys we were pregnant. I was about 14 weeks pregnant and we had just told our extended family and friends and we’re getting used to the idea that our pregnancy was public knowledge. I couldn’t help but think about how different the following Mother’s Day would be. We’d be a family of three. Would it be a girl or boy we’d be snuggling a year from then? At that point, we still didn’t know, though I had a strong suspicion it was a boy!
And, here we are, a year later and this time I’m actually a mom. Mother’s Day has always been an special holiday in our family. My mom is amazing. She’s strong, tough, yet gentle and caring. She’s a great listener and always had the best advice for us. She encouraged us to follow our dreams and comforted us when things didn’t go as planned. She was, and still is an amazing woman. I’m lucky enough to be close with her and really consider her to be one of my best friends.
I’ve always had so much respect for my sweet mama, but, it wasn’t until we had Owen that I fully appreciated all she did. Being a mom is hard work. It can be mentally and physically draining, you often feel like you’re messing up and it’s a often a thankless job. It’s also incredibly rewarding and so much fun to be raising a little human. You learn to love on a whole different level and somehow all the other stuff that used to bother you just doesn’t matter anymore.
