“This is my happy place”—have you ever said those words before?
I know I have, and it’s almost always when we’re on vacation. Several weeks ago we were in California and Rob and I were sitting out on the terrace that overlooked a green golf course and the ocean. I had rolled my pant legs to take advantage of the sun, and then leaned back in my chair, closed my eyes and said those exact words out loud to him.
Actually, I think I said, “I like it here,” which is an inside joke between us that we say when we’re in a city that makes us really feel alive and excited. But in our book, it means the same thing. Don’t get me wrong, I love Chicago! It’s an amazing city that’s brought me so many wonderful opportunities and friendships that I’d wouldn’t trade for anything. But, I really do think I could live in oceanside town and be equally as content.
The thought of waking up, throwing on a dress like this one and eating my breakfast of avocado toast and fresh fruit on my patio sounds pretty amazing. I know, I know, I sound so cliché, but can you admit that it does sound pretty heavenly?!
I think part of what attracts me to seaside living, is the effortless style that accompanies it. It’s equal parts stylish, carefree and bohemian, and while we were in California, I took full advantage and wore these two simple outfits from Urban Outfitters. I love that both of these outfits require 3 pieces at the most to pull them off. Sure, you could dress them up with accessories, but it’s not required!
MORE DRESSES & ROMPERS
I fell in love with this dress because of it’s cut-outs and open back. It screams summer to me and I love that I can wear it casually with sneakers, like I did here, or dress is up with a pair of wedges. My second outfit was similar in that it could be dressed up or down with the simple change of shoes. I love the lace-up detail of the shirt (also comes in black) and frayed hem of the skirt. All of these pieces will be worn on repeat this spring and summer in Chicago too! These simple, bohemian looks really make me feel most like myself!
MORE TOPS & BOTTOMS
For me, there’s something about the sound of the ocean, the sunshine and the sand beneath my toes that makes me feel alive and in my element. It’s also helps me remember that life’s too short to worry about the little things! I really need to make a point to be by the ocean several times a year or maybe convince Rob to move, haha! I doubt that will happen, but a girl can dream!
Where do you feel your happiest? What style (preppy, bohemian, traditional, etc.) makes you feel most like yourself?
