I got my first real glimpse of spring weather when we were in California a few weeks back. The days were sunny and warm, but breezy to keep you from overheating. The nights were cool and crisp, reminding you that we’re not totally out of the woods just yet. I’m extra excited for this weekend, because it looks like we’re going to be getting some of that same springy weather here in Chicago, which means it’s time to head to a patio—who’s with me?!
To me, nothing really says spring like a perfect floral dress. The Devil Wears Prada version of Meryl Streep may not agree with me, but florals are a classic in my book, which is exactly why my closet is filled with them. Seriously, nearly half my dresses (maybe more?!) have florals on them! They’re my go-to outfit for spring and summer days because they’re easy to throw on in the morning and don’t require much thinking. Plus, I can wear them with cute sneakers, sandals or wedges which makes it easy to go from walking Oliver in the morning, to meeting friends for a work day.

I consider this beautiful shade of marigold yellow to be my signature color, so it’s no surprise that I picked up this dress when I saw it a few weeks ago. During an afternoon in Newport, I wore this gorgeous floral dress paired with these wedges. I had my eye on them all last summer and they always sold out in my size so quickly, so this year I ordered them as soon as I saw them and I’m so happy with the purchase. The platform makes them easy to walk in and they’re really comfortable.
Spring signals the rebirth of life, especially when you live in a city that’s known for its winters. This is exactly why it’s one of my favorite times of the year! The flowers start blooming, sidewalks cafés pop up, every patio in the city is packed and the streets are filled with people and tourists wandering around and enjoying the weather. As the city fades from its cold, grey, wintery self and starts becoming more colorful and lively, it really ignites something inside me. It’s easier for me to kick those bad habits I picked up during colder months and stay motivated to workout, clean out our closets, and eat fresh and healthy foods. I also find spring to be one of the most inspiring times of the year! New ideas seem to flow freely and I find myself dreaming up new ideas for this blog, travel destinations, what to plant in my garden and exciting plans with friends.
What’s your go-to outfit for spring? What’s your favorite part of the start of a new season—this one in particular?!
