One thing I really do miss about living in Texas is that spring comes early. I was pleasantly reminded of just how much I miss that aspect of the south when we arrived in Dallas just a two weekends back for my sister’s engagement party. I had walked out of my apartment in Chicago with my suitcase wearing only a thin sweater and hurriedly trying to flag down a cab before freezing. As soon as we stepped off the plane, I remembered exactly why I didn’t pack a sweater — 85 degrees and sunshine!
Our first night in Dallas, my mom hosted a little family get together at our house. Thankfully it was casual we came in what we wore on the plane. I had dug out my spring clothes from last year and paired and old striped top from Anthropologie with a pair of skinny jeans and these lace-up flats. Quick note on these flats — they are the best flats I have ever owned. Bold statement, I know, but I seriously can’t get over how quickly they broke in and how comfortable they are! If you’re following my on Instagram, you already know this because they’ve made appearances here, here and here already!
My mom had Mexican food catered to the house which was not only delicious, but made the night easy and carefree which was perfect for catching up with everyone!
On Saturday, we fulfilled another Culwell (my maiden name) house tradition by taking a stroll down the Katy Trail and making an obligatory stop at the Ice House for drinks! It was such a perfect day and the Ice House was packed, but we ended up finding a table that was big enough for the whole crew. I ran into several high school and college friends too which was an added bonus!
Before we went home to get ready for the engagement party, we made a quick stop at one of our friends’ house to see their brand new Corgi puppy, Hootie. To say she gave me puppy fever is an understatement.
We finally made it home and got dressed and ready for the party! I wore this brand new Yumi Kim happy hour dress — appropriate name, right? — paired with Vince mules from last year, a simple grey clutch and this Monica Vinader bracelet from yesterday’s post! Florals are, of course, always in style for spring and summer and the florals and colors on this dress are absolutely beautiful! They’re so bright and summery and the dress fits like a glove! Actually, every dress (see the posts here, here and here!) I have from Yumi Kim fits perfectly, which is truly amazing.
The party was at one of my parents’ friends who had just recently built their dream home. It as absolutely stunning! I wish I hadn’t been talking so much so I could have snapped some pictures. One of the coolest details was that all the doors were made from reclaimed wood from the wife’s home state of Louisiana! Little touches like that make homes so unique, don’t you think?!
We have another wedding this summer and I’m thinking this dress might make another appearance! Do you have lots of wedding and engagement parties to attend this summer? What’s on your wish list to wear to them?
