When I was younger, I had so many hobbies, did you? Among that list were watercolor painting, journaling, climbing trees, taking pictures on disposable cameras, knitting, collecting as many pairs of Keds as my mom would buy me, making cakes in my easy bake oven, and playing with legos. You know, normal kid stuff!
What kind of hobbies did you have as a child?
In an adult days, my hobbies have changed quite a bit. Big surprise, right?! For a while, I was into painting (maybe I’ll get back into it some day), I always love decorating and rearranging our house, I enjoy sewing and wish I was better at it, but most of all photography has become my biggest hobby. Maybe it’s because it’s a big part of what I do day in and day out, but either way, I’ve become fascinated by it. I loved photography when I was in high school and took several classes, but never managed to actually figure out all those manual settings and pretty much only shot on automatic. Which means my photos were never that great—whomp whomp.
If only I could go back in time and tell myself where my career was headed, maybe then I’d have paid attention in class! But some things just take time and I think that’s why I’m drawn to photography. There’s always something new to learn and there’s always subjects to shoot! Yes, the equipment is expensive, but if you can accept that, then you don’t need much more than your camera and a memory card! With painting it was brushes, canvases, easels, paint, drop-clothes, oh and space! Because all that stuff doesn’t sit nicely on my desk like a camera.
Thankfully my job requires me to use this hobby on a regular basis. It remains one of my favorite parts about blogging and while I’ve shot with photographers, my favorite is shooting with friends so that I can improve my DSLR and editing skills! All the photos on my site, including these are edited by me, unless there’s a photographer credited.
Speaking of this dress, I spotted it online a few weeks ago and ordered it immediately. I love florals and the length and styling of this dress were too gorgeous to pass up! The dress itself is actually sort of heavy, which I like—no need to worry about a gust of wind exposing my underthings! It comes in black and blue too! I paired it with my favorite tassel sandals and this sweet little crossbody bag from Cuyana. I love that brand!
Which brings me to my final point. If you also love photography and want to improve your skills for your blog or just for documenting your life, you’re in luck! Jess and I are hosting an In-Person Blogging For Keeps Photography Workshop at Jess’ house on April 1 from 10-5! It’s technically designed for bloggers, but everything in the class will be applicable to anyone wanting to learn more about their DSLR, lighting, settings and editing! If you have any questions about the course, feel free to ask below or email me! For more info, hop over to our sign-up page!
