Raise your hand if you’d like to have fresh flowers in your home all the time! I’m guessing you might have raised your hand. Me too. Every time I go to the grocery store I have a bit of internal struggle—do I splurge on the bunch of fresh tulips or save my money and just buy the necessities. Usually (and thankfully for my wallet) logic wins and I browse the flower section, take a quick sniff of the roses and then quickly walk away without looking back. That’s probably the right decision. For the most part, I’m pretty frugal and prefer to save my cash for a rainy day (#adulting), but every once and a while, I treat myself to fresh blooms.
I used to feel a little bit guilty about my unnecessary expense, but I did some research and my findings made me feel a whole lot better! Displaying fresh flowers in your home can actually boost your mood and general well-being! Just smelling a fresh flower can instantly make you happier. I think it’s true too. When I wake up and walk out of the bedroom to see fresh flowers on the kitchen or coffee table, they always make me smile. The little things make such a difference, don’t they?
Since learning that, I’ve actually noticed that I buy flowers more frequently—oops! I always try to look for the best deals at Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods so I don’t feel too bad. They usually have hydrangeas and tulips on sale—two flowers I love! Peonies and dahlias are still my favorite, but they never seem to last as long and they’re always more expensive! What’s your favorite flower?
Do you ever splurge on fresh flowers? Do you notice a boost in your mood when you have them around?
