February 10, 2017 Food & Drink How I’m Making Dinner Less Stressful Pin72 Share5 Tweet Reddit Stumble1Shares 78 Rob and I love going out and trying new restaurants on the weekends, but during the week we almost always eat at home. To be honest, we’re both kind of homebodies and love being in our place together at night. It’s so relaxing after a busy work day, don’t you think? Eating at home is usually the healthier choice. I can make sure my ingredients are healthy and organic, I can pick my cooking technique (no frying over here), and I can season our food with normal amounts of salt and oil, something that restaurants don’t typically care about. I also love to cook! I know I’ve mentioned it before, but for anyone who’s new around here, I did a quick semester of culinary school after I graduated. It’s always been something I’ve enjoyed doing and is really relaxing for me! There’s nothing like taking your day’s frustration out on a pile of veggies, right?! Hopefully I’m not the only one who feels this way! But, as much as I love to cook, the whole figuring out what to cook, and actually going to the grocery is not something I look forward to. Occasionally, I’ll get ahead and meal plan on a Sunday, but more often than not, I find myself sitting at my desk at 4pm on Monday evening, frantically searching Pinterest for an exciting recipe that doesn’t require a million ingredients. Ugh, it makes me tired and stressed just thinking about it. Last week, we did something different. No, we didn’t go out or order takeout, instead we tried out Green Chef! Green Chef is a food delivery company that drops off a box of recipes and all the ingredients you need to make meals at home. I know, there’s a bunch of different companies out there like this one, and we’ve tried a few, but this one has been my favorite by far. First off, all of their ingredients are organic! I’ve made a point to buy more organic produce and foods this year in my attempt to nourish my body with really good, clean stuff, and with Green Chef, it’s done for me. Second, and I think one of their best features, is the ability to select a meal plan that best suits your lifestyle. They have omnivore, carnivore, gluten-free, vegan, paleo and vegetarian—there’s something for everyone! If you have dietary restrictions or are trying to eat a specific way, this makes it a cinch! Even if you don’t have a specific dietary need, it’s fun to try out different options every once and a while. I’m dying to try the gluten-free option since I don’t eat much gluten to begin with. Rob and I tried the omnivore plan which was perfect for us. Two of our three meals had meat, and one was vegetarian, which was a perfect mix! Here’s what we ate: Italian meatballs and orzo (the small square image below), jerk chicken tostadas (ate them and then realized I didn’t snap a pic!), and our vegetarian dish, sumac veggie flatbreads. The last dish was still super filling, which is always Rob’s concern with vegetarian dishes, and quite possibly my favorite meal of them all! You can see it in the pictures—drool-worthy, right?! I love that I still get to do the cooking, but don’t have to worry about the parts, like shopping or meal-planning that I don’t like. The best part is that Rob and I get to spend more time together each night because there’s no extra trips to the grocery store. The whole night is just so much more enjoyable and less stressful! We get to enjoy a delicious, healthy meal together and simply relax. Not a bad way to end a crazy work day, right?! I’ll definitely be using Green Chef again in the next few weeks. Both Rob and I have been super busy with work, and if there’s any areas where I can simplify my life, I’m all about it.
