October 11, 2017 Uncategorized 7 Easy Ways to Stay Healthy This Fall Fall ends up being a pretty un-motivating season for me if I’m not careful. Between the endless food holidays, colder weather, and the desire to do nothing but cuddle, my health tends to go out the window. But not this year! With my wedding coming up shortly after the new year, I’ve been doing my best to prioritize feeling healthy, and I don’t want that to change with the season. To help me stay focused, I’ve come up with 7 ways to push through 2017 on a strong note (literally). Health Tips for Fall Preserve that Summer Produce If you’ve been chowing down on all that fresh summer produce and aren’t ready to say goodbye, there are some great canning or dehydrating options out there to keep those fruits and veggies in your diet come fall. And be sure to give a couple new seasonal fruits/veggies a try this year! Try a New Class Gyms usually start to offer free one-day passes when fall comes around in order to keep people motivated. Do some research and find something new to try. I’m really excited about a hot Pilates class at a local studio, and I’m in search of a non-intimidating boxing class to sweat out fall treats. Walk (a lot) It’s not winter yet, so get out and enjoy those fall temps! To make it not feel like exercise, bring along your camera or your phone and try to capture some pretty fall foliage. Make sure to check your phone (or something like a Fitbit) to see how many steps you’re getting daily. 10,000 is amazing, so try for that! Put a Healthy Spin on a Classic Recipe Fall is when all your favorite holiday food starts to become top of mind, but instead of making your usual pumpkin pie, try this instead. You can take all your favorites, but with a new, healthy spin on them. They may even become your new normal. Consider Taking a Vitamin D Supplement Since the summer sun is gone, make sure you’re getting enough vitamin D. It helps your bones stay strong and helps to build up your immune system. This will go a long way in efforts to avoid catching a fall cold, which no body wants. Plan Something Physical I have a good friend’s family who always plays flag football on Thanksgiving morning, and I love that. Even though a lot of the fall holidays surround food, think about planning a few physical activities along the way. And then enjoy all the apple pie! Skip the Pumpkin Spice OK, don’t kill me here, but have you ever looked at how much sugar is in a Pumpkin Spiced Latte? Hint: A LOT. And since sugar lingers in a lot of fall favorites, adding even more consumption isn’t in the cards for me this year. Of course treat yourself to one here and there, but they don’t need to become a daily – or even weekly – treat. We can do this! What ways do you stay healthy during fall? Anything to add to my list?
