We’re just one day away from the three-day weekend—do you have any exciting plans? As you know from Monday’s post, we moved this week, yesterday actually, and I’m so happy to have an extended weekend to get my life in order. I’m thankful that the move went smoothly and I remained relatively calm throughout the whole process—that’s big for me!
Last week I turned 30, and thanks to my girlfriends and Rob, it was an awesome day! I’d told myself that I was going to take the day off, but who am I kidding. I’m terrible at sitting still and ended up working on some writing for a little passion project that I’ve been mulling over in my head for weeks. It didn’t feel like work at all and was something I’d been putting off because it wasn’t essential, so I figured that was a fair trade off! Plus, I was writing from the rooftop on a gorgeous sunny day, so it pretty much felt like vacation.
Emily, Jess, Shaheen and Kelly, as well as the babies, Emma and Jo, were nice enough to come down to West Loop for a little birthday lunch at De Cero—one of my favorite Mexican food spots in the city. Thankfully for us and our oversized crowd, the place had cleared out by the time we sat down. We had chips, guac, margs and tacos and then a few of us went over to Soho and sat on the rooftop for a while before heading home. That night, Rob cooked dinner for me which was not only delicious, but such a treat! I’m usually the one that does all the cooking and it was so fun to just sit around and watch him do all the work—haha! He might be on kitchen duty more often now that he’s proven himself a worthy chef.
I also had another busy work day with Jess last week and wore this outfit, which I’ll most likely be wearing again this weekend. It’s funny that some of my favorite outfits are some of the simplest! These ripped jeans have been one of my best purchases, and they’re only $88. This blush pink top I’m wearing (also comes in mint, black and white) is a new favorite. Sleeveless tops are my favorite in the summer and the way this one is cut is so flattering—just make sure you’re wearing the right bra so your straps don’t show! Lastly, this Brahmin bag arrived last week and I’ve been carrying it ever since. It’s holds a ton, but doesn’t feel huge and I love the stitched detailing on it!
We got a ton of stuff done and launched something pretty exciting—the Blogging for Keeps BFFs Facebook Group! It’s open to all bloggers, just hit join and we’ll approve you within 24 hours! It’s been so fun to meet new bloggers from all over the world. I can already tell that it’s going to be a really collaborative, inspiring, helpful and uplifting community.
But, back to this weekend! Not only am I thankful that I get three full days, but I’m also really thankful that my parents’ are coming to visit this weekend! Rob will be on his annual guys’ trip in California, so they’re staying at our place since we now actually have the space to host guests! My parents’ have been present for nearly every move of my life and I owe them big time. My mom is a master organizer and empties boxes and gets things organized so fast—I wish I’d inherited that gene! My dad is a master picture hanger, lighting installer and general handyman. We always called him Mr. Fixit when we were little and it’s so true, he literally knows how to fix everything. I have a good feeling that by the end of the weekend, our place is going to look a lot more calm and lived in that it’s current state.
Well, that was a lot of rambling, but honestly, my life has felt super hectic lately, so this is a pretty accurate representation of my thoughts! Wish us luck with unpacking and have a safe and fun Memorial Day weekend! Share your weekend plans in the comments!
