When I was cleaning out my closet a few weeks ago, I pulled out a few things that I absolutely love, but still hadn’t worn yet. I think the tags might have even still been on. A few of those pieces required warm weather to wear so that made sense, but a few of them didn’t and I wasn’t sure why I hadn’t worn them. In the past I would have told myself I was saving them for the right occasion, but these days, if I haven’t worn it, it goes out the door. I think having a small closet has made me better about that, but it also made me wonder, why do people save the good stuff instead of just wearing it immediately?!
I know there’s been plenty of times that I’ve said, ‘I’m saving this for something special’ and then that something special never happens. By then, I’ve built it up so much in my mind that no occasion ever lives up to the right moment and it goes unworn. I’t’s pretty silly really.
I read something while I was in Mexico that reminded me that I should just wear the good stuff now because that right moment or special occasion might never happen. Lately I’ve been applying this point of view to more than just items in my closet. Like this printed maxi dress. No, I wasn’t going anywhere fancy, but I decided I wanted to wear it, so I did! Whatever it is I’ve been saving — fancy stationery, good wine, nice plates, quality face cream, nice candles and the new shoes are all getting used when I want to use them. No more waiting, the time to enjoy them is now!
Do you save the good stuff for special occasions or wear your favorites immediately? If you saved it, was it worth it?!
