Were you aware that Mother’s Day is just a few short weeks away? This year we won’t be celebrating with our moms since they’re in Dallas and Denver, but it doesn’t mean we won’t be thinking about them! Every year, it’s a challenge coming up with something special for my mom to really show her just how much she means to me and how much I appreciate everything she’s done and continues to do for me. Typically I do flowers and a card, but this year I’m trying to think outside the box a little bit!
Have you heard of the Akola Project? I actually heard about it in high school because a girl I knew worked with them and I always thought that it was such a unique project. The project empowers women in Uganda and Dallas by teaching them the necessary skills to make products and in turn be able to provide for their families, gain self-confidence and leadership skills. Akola’s jewelry is sold on their website and, guys, it’s really beautiful! Here I’m wearing the Nova necklace in lavender. It’s really more blush pink in person, but it’s so pretty and paired perfectly with this striped skater dress.
They have so many different styles and colors online and I really love how the necklaces look when you pair a few of them together. A few of my other favorites are this triangle pieced necklace, this chain link layered necklace and this long necklace, and I know my mom would love this one and this one.
One other thing that makes these necklaces so special is that inside the package, you receive the details about an Akola woman complete with a beautiful picture and peek into her life and her goals. You also learn a little bit more about how your piece is made. I love these personal touches! It makes me even happier to wear piece knowing that it has positively affected someone’s life. If you’re looking for a unique gift for your mama this year, I urge you to check out the Akola Project! Not only are the necklaces really beautiful, but they’re meaningful too!
What are you most thankful to your mom for? What’s your go-to gift for Mother’s Day?
