If you’ve been to Chicago in the winter, you might have asked yourself why anyone in their right mind lives in this city. It’s frozen, windy, dreary and at some points, even a bit depressing. But if you come in the summer, you’ll know exactly why we put up with the horrific winters.
Summers in Chicago are simply unbeatable.
It’s warm, even hot, but not Texas-hot and sunny. It stays light until almost 9pm and the sun rises early, making Oliver’s morning walks to the lake absolutely stunning.
Did you know that Chicagoans are really good at summering?
We spend nearly any waking hour possible outdoors walking down the lakefront path, eating lunches on patios, sipping drinks on rooftops, biking through Lincoln park and attending as many festivals as possible. The last one is easy, there’s literally at least one festivals happening on every single weekend during the summer.
Two weekends back, Rob and I took full advantage of the summer weather and ate dinner on the rooftop of Tanta for our Friday date night. Rob’s parents gave me a gift card to the restaurant for my birthday and we were eager to put it to use.
For our date, I wore this new tie front trapeze dress in my favorite color and paired it with these comfortable chunky heeled sandals and this bright woven clutch. I’m obsessed with this dress. It’s bright, golden, full of sunshine and so simple and easy — I just love the way it makes me feel when I wear it!
Tanta is one of our favorite restaurants downtown and sitting on the rooftop is perfection. The food — Peruvian — is top notch (we love the empanadas, ceviche and whole roasted chicken) and the rooftop looks over the city. We got a great spot on the rooftop that proved to be perfect when a random storm appeared and rained out most of the patio tables — ours was just under the convertible roof, so we got a nice view of the storm rolling in without getting soaked!
Do you spend a lot of time outdoors in the summer? What’s your favorite color to wear when the weather is nice?
