October 19, 2017 Dressed Up What to Wear to a Winter Wedding Pin25 Share2 Tweet Reddit StumbleShares 27 Dress: c/o One Sleeve Ruffle Dress, more colors here | Dress: Grey Foldover Clutch | Heels: Mila Leopard Heels A few years ago it felt like we had a wedding to go to nearly every other week and then it slowed down for a while. Ironically, the past few months we’ve had more weddings to go to than we have in years! We had to skip one because of my pregnancy and the next two on our list are the same day, which happens to be two days after my due date, so I think it’s safe to say we won’t be attending. But, I’m bummed! I haven’t had the opportunity to get dressed up in a while and this dress is absolutely perfect for the occasion—bump or not! Here are my top tips for what to wear to a wedding in winter: What to Wear to a Wedding as a Guest in Winter Black or Dark Colors Summer weddings are the perfect time to pull out some brighter colors, but for fall and winter weddings, I stick to darker colors like black and navy. They’re classic and chic and always look dressy enough for a wedding. Turn on your JavaScript to view content Unique Silhouettes When buying solid dresses, I love finding pieces with unique silhouettes and cuts like this one from Cynthia Cazort Collins. There’s nothing wrong with a classic cut in a classic color, but they’re just not as interesting! Since we don’t dress up often, I really like to make sure my nice pieces are memorable and make me feel beautiful. Statement Accessories Typically I don’t like to wear dresses that are too over the top to weddings. You never want to upstage the bride (though pretty much impossible, isn’t it?)! When I wear a simple solid-colored dress like this one, I love pairing it with a pair of statement shoes, a bag or even beautiful earrings. It gives your look a little more interest without overdoing it. These leopard heels are from Ann Taylor last year, but this pair is super similar and so cute! Turn on your JavaScript to view content Longer Lengths Long dresses always feel more formal to me, but I think it’s easier to get away with them during the winter months because it’s colder outside. Even if the wedding isn’t black tie, a longer dress in winter doesn’t look nearly as formal as it would in the middle of July. Dressy Coat or Shawl When I lived in Texas, I had one coat. I wore it everywhere—to work, to the bar, and yes, even to weddings. It was fine for most situations, but it never quite looked nice enough for weddings. I love having a nicer long winter coat or beautiful faux fur stole to drape across your shoulders. It’ll pull your outfit together and looks so much nicer than showing up with your puffy coat! Turn on your JavaScript to view content Red Lip I love a good red lip, but if there’s anytime to pull it out, winter weddings are perfect. Especially when you’re wearing a solid dress. It adds a nice punch of color and looks festive for the holiday season. Two of my favorite shades of lip sheers (the only lipstick I’ll wear) are scarlet and currant. Do you have any winter weddings coming up? If not, these tips work great for any fancy holiday parties too! BTW, how to easily create a subtle smokey eye, and what to wear to a holiday party.
