It’s been awhile since I updated you guys on the details of my pregnancy, and I’m nearly through my second trimester! I guess I haven’t thought about it because overall, I’ve felt really good. Still no nausea, just starting to feel a bit more tired after normal activities. It’s crazy how fast these past 26 weeks have flown by and it gets more and more real everyday.

Here’s a quick update on my pregnancy right now:

What I’m Loving

Baby Kicks: I mentioned it on Instagram Stories last week, but laying in bed at night and feeling baby boy move around makes me feel so calm and happy. He’s pretty active and most of the time I can actually see the kicks from the outside which is hilarious. He is starting to kick more in the middle of the night which I would prefer he didn’t, but it’s still adorable!

Cravings & Aversions: Hmm, nothing really! I’ve found that I haven’t wanted meat as frequently and have been eating lots of veggies and whole grains. They make me feel great and keep me full so I’m not complaining. That being said, I do try to get meat in at least once a day. I guess I do still get a bit of a sweet tooth, but it’s been a while since I’ve had a donut craving, haha!

Long Walks: I mention it more below, but my back has been bothering me, so I’ve been doing a lot of walking instead of intense working out. It’s nice to get out of the house for a bit, listen to a podcast, music or city sounds and get moving. It’s so stress-relieving and relaxing. I always do a good stretch when I get home too which seems to be helping with the back pain.

Water: I’ve been drinking a ton of water. Like 12-16 glasses a day. It’s been giving me more energy and my skin looks better too.

Prepping for Baby

What I’m Reading: I haven’t read that much. Honestly, some of it scares me and at the end of the day, I trust that my body’s natural instincts will kick in when it comes to labor and delivery. But, I have been reading Bringing Up Bébé. It’s interesting to read about the difference between American and French parenting and I have to admit, I really love the French approach. I’ve dogeared pages for reference once baby boy arrives! Any must-reads you want to share?

Nursery: We picked and ordered our crib which will arrive at the end of the month or early next month! We also picked out a rug from Caitlin Wilson, and I can’t wait to see it in person. We picked it before we knew the gender so it’s pretty neutral, Rob approved! We still need a dresser and all of the other stuff that comes with a nursery, but I’m starting with the big stuff and will be sharing more of our nursery plans next week!

Registry: I finally started making a registry, if you have any suggestions of must-have items, let me know! Especially for those first few months! Picking the cute stuff like sheets, towels, swaddles was easy, but I’m clueless when it comes to the essentials!

Car: We both sold our cars when we moved to Chicago and suddenly we realized we need to buy one. I’m not really looking forward to this and the thought of searching for and purchasing a car feels so overwhelming. I think I’ll leave it to Rob to do that, ha!

What I’m Wearing

Maternity clothes, dresses, and sneakers-all the time. In fact, I’ve been joking that I’ve got this mom thing down because you can frequently seeing me walking around the neighborhood in jeans, a cute top and running shoes. Ha, oh well! It’s comfortable! I really struggled finding a swimsuit that fit this summer as everything has grown. I can’t tell you how many I ordered and returned because they didn’t fit right! This Marysia suitPalm Springs top and Antibes bottoms—arrived just before our trip and was totally worth the splurge. It fits like a dream! I love the coverage on the top and the tie-front detail as well as the bottoms! You can’t go wrong with scallops, right?

What I’m Struggling With

Breakouts: I know pregnancy hormones aren’t helping, but breakouts on top of your favorite clothes not fitting is frustrating. I’ve been wearing less makeup and have implemented a simple, but straight-forward beauty routine that will hopefully help!

Linea Nigra: If you thought I had a happy trail in these pictures, you’re wrong! That dark coloration is totally normal during pregnancy and is called Linea Nigra. Unfortunately it just looks like I have a hairy stomach, haha!

Stretch Marks: I don’t have any yet, but the possibility of getting them becomes more real each day as my belly grows. I’ve been using this body oil from Erbaviva and have also heard that sweet almond oil is amazing so I plan on picking up some of that. Any other recommendations?!

Back Pain: I pulled a major muscle in my back during our trip to Amelia Island and I can’t believe how badly it hurts. Walking, cooking, typing, sleeping—basically everything I do is accompanied by some back pain. It’s slowly starting to fade and I’ve been doing gentle stretching and exercises at night to stretch it out and also strengthen my back muscles. Working out has temporarily been put on hold though and that’s frustrating!

Emotional: The week before we left for our trip, I had a breakdown. I haven’t felt that emotional up until then, but wow, last week I sure did. I ended up taking the rest of the day slow, made a healthy dinner, took a long shower, did a face mask and went to bed early and felt immensely better the next day. I’m starting to realize how fragile my mood is when I don’t get enough sleep!

There were definitely more items in the struggle category this time around, but most of them came up within the past week. Cross your fingers my back heals soon!

Are you pregnant? How far along are you and what symptoms have you been experiencing?!
