I feel the same way. I like the look of a gallery wall when done right but could not pull the trigger on actually doing it in our home. I think the back of my mind knew it could be overstimulating. We have minimal art/decor on our walls and I love the calmness and solitude of it. When we first moved into our house, I didn’t have “enough art” to fill the large wall-space and vowed to do so until people kept commenting how they liked how “minimalistic” our decor was. I laughed at the time but it stuck with me and both my husband and I like it now.

I love nature photography. I still kind of like the gallery wall. Sometimes it’s overwhelming, but other times it’s just right. We have framed prints from Minted hanging above our living room sofa in a little gallery. The wall is huge and the ceilings slope up, so it was the best way to fill the space without buying one enormous piece of art. We also have a row of four black and white photos down our hallway that were taken around Michigan by a local photographer (does that count as a gallery?). I think those work well for that space too.
All that being said, I do think gallery walls are easily overdone, and can get really busy, especially when the frames are too eclectic or when 3D art is added. I do love the simplicity of one large piece of artwork for a space, like in the image you selected for this post.
