We all know that aging is part of life, and a beautiful thing when you really think about it, but that doesn’t mean it’s fun. Getting used to new wrinkles and lines can be tough to swallow, and the changes can even play a roll in our confidence levels. Luckily, there are certain steps we can take to slow things down a bit—Botox not included! Here are 8 anti-aging beauty tips that you can start incorporating today:

Wear Sunglasses 24/7

OK so maybe 24/7 is a little dramatic, but you should be wearing sunglasses in rain or shine. Even if it’s gloomy out, the sun is still giving off ultraviolet and ultra-damaging rays. Protecting your eyes from harmful light, not to mention other elements like dust, sand, snow, will prevent onset wrinkles that come with squinting.

Use a Silk Pillowcase

This is the newest anti-aging tip I’ve added to my arsenal and I’ve noticed a difference already! Sleeping on cotton or other material can actually irritate your complexion and even lead to wrinkles. Swap your pillowcase for a silk version to not only help the aging game, but it’ll also lead to less hair breakage and skin issues. A win-win!

Pick Smart Products

We’re lucky to live in an age of endless beauty products that target specific problem areas—like aging! Retinol is a great tool for preventing signs of aging and should be used starting in your twenties. Products full of antioxidants should be applied as much as possible, too, since they also fight wrinkles and dead skin.

Go Greek

Visit Greece or a country close by and you’ll quickly see the wonders of a Mediterranean diet (think lots of fish, veggies, olive oil). Consuming healthy fats and Omega-3 is wonderful for your skin, not to mention your waistline. Eating this way is also great for energy, so even as we age it’ll keep us feeling younger! If you’re not a fish fan, you can take Omega-3 or Fish Oil supplements to get similar benefits.

Skip Straws

Next time you’re using a straw, take a look in a mirror. You’ll see the skin naturally creases from the motion of sipping. If you’re trying to be mindful about aging and lines around your mouth, skip the straw. Worried about staining your teeth with coffee and vino? Getting your teeth whitened is a whole lot easier then getting rid of wrinkles!

Cleanse Gently

My grandma always said the best thing you can do for skin is to be gentle. That means not harshly rubbing your eyes or face (a.k.a promoting wrinkles) when removing makeup. Instead, soak a cotton ball with eye makeup remover and lightly press to remove mascara and eyeshadow. When you cleanse your face, be just as gentle.

Avoid Binge Drinking and Smoking

Pretty obvious here but both habits wreck havoc on skin. Smoking and drinking physically speeds up the aging process and hurts your entire system—let alone makes you look older real quick. Drink responsibly, and at the least, go for antioxidants in red wine!
