On Slowing Down
Do you find yourself saying “I’m too busy” all the time?
Me too, and I’ve come to hate it. When did it happen?! When did I get so busy that I didn’t have time to talk to my family on the phone, or catch up with my girlfriends over drinks?
I’m not really sure, but I’m determined to change it.
As I get older, I’ve started putting more of an emphasis on slowing down, enjoying and trusting the process (like the theme of Lauren’s yoga class I took last week), and being present in the moment. Some days pass so quickly that I feel more like a spectator in my own life, rather than the main character.
There’s something about this time of year that makes me rethink my everyday habits, and I mentioned it in last week’s newsletter and last Friday’s post. It’s almost like New Year’s resolutions, but instead of trying to accomplish goals, I’m focused on taking things off my plate, and simply living. Doing what I want to do.
This weekend I did just that. We did have plans at night, but our days were pretty wide open, so I threw on my comfiest of clothes, rotating between this uber-soft cardi and this wrap. I cozied up on the couch with Oliver and had my morning coffee while watching the Olympics and just enjoyed that I had no where to be.
Also, I feel obligated to let you know that this cardi, wrap and hat are literally the softest things I own. The cardi is perfect for wearing around the house or layering over a tee with jeans for a casual look (and it comes in a bunch of colors!). I love that it has pockets too because my hands are always cold. The wrap is ideal for travel and packs nicely into your carry-on without getting wrinkled—gotta love that!
The hat is also super cozy and warm, and while I haven’t been wearing it too much right now, it’s going to come in handy once the cold weather rolls in.
I can already tell that these pieces will be on regular rotation throughout fall. Rob was cleaning up the other day and moved the sweater and did a double take. He was like, “wow, these feel like lotion!” which maybe sounds weird, but you get it right? They’re that kind of creamy, buttery soft that you can’t help but keep touching! I purposely made a point to keep them out of Oliver’s reach, because I know he would love to turn them into a nice little bed.
I finished off the weekend by relaxing and cooking a healthy home-cooked meal and watched a few of our favorite TV shows with Rob. Sounds pretty nice, right? I won’t lie, it was!
