I can’t believe the first stop of our trip is now in the rear view mirror. It was exactly what it should have been – lazy, relaxing, peaceful and rejuvenating. I had developed some puffy bags under my eyes that I attribute to pre-wedding stress and after a few days of salty, muggy air and long restful sleeps, they’re gone and I feel all kinds of amazing. I might have to some time aside each year to get away and completely relax. It does wonders for my mind and my creativity. I’ve already documented some inspiration for a series of paintings I want to complete when we get back.

It’s technically rainy season in Thailand, but we had 3.5 amazing days of sunshine. While the majority of our stop in Khao Lak, Thailand was spent on the beach, in the ocean or by the pool, we did venture out from the hotel on our fourth day. We spent the morning fulfilling my childhood fantasies of riding an elephant through the forest, getting to pet them and then feeding her bananas at the end of the trip. Touristy, sure, but it was such an incredible experience, I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

That afternoon, we went into Biang Niang to explore the market. It was full of both tourists and locals bustling about getting their groceries, trying the local fare and picking up souvenirs. Tucked within the vendors’ stalls were a few bars, where we parked ourselves for some spectacular people watching after we had cruised through the rows of shops. I wore a casual summer outfit – this Tikal Tassel top and my favorite denim shorts for the hot and dusty afternoon. I’ve also been wearing my Monica Rich Kosann necklaces which remind me to Carpe Diem and live in the moment while we’re exploring new cities in a totally new-to-us continent.

Khao Lak was picturesque and perfect for our first stop. We’ve finally adjusted to the 12 hour time change and are well-rested and ready to see what the next 20 days have in store for us – Bangkok, here we come!
