If you ever saw along came Polly, you might remember the scene where Jennifer Aniston asks Ben Stiller why he has so many pillows on his bed when all he does is take them off and put them into a box every night. If so, then you probably also remember the part where she comes back in the room and rips one open with a knife (my worst nightmare)!

After that scene Rob gave me a look that was one of those ‘she has a point you know’ looks. But just like Ben Stiller’s ex, I like a good decorative pillow and think they’re essential to making your bed look amazing. That being said, the number that he has on his bed — twelve, I think — is totally absurd.

So it begs the question, how many pillow are appropriate to put on your bed? Rob would say only the pillows we sleep with, but he doesn’t care much for decor. Other than shams, I say 1-3 decorative pillows are appropriate without looking ridiculous. What do you think?

If you’re looking to make a simple change to your bedroom decor, switching up the throw pillows is the easiest and cheapest way to make the room look totally fresh and new! I’ve rounded up a few stylish throw pillows and pairings that look amazing, especially on crisp white bedding!

On the subject of bedding, I’m on the hunt for a new white quilt and sheets for us — any suggestions? I’ve heard the Belgian linen sheets from West Elm are amazing, have you tried them?

And lastly, how many pillows do you have on your bed?!

8 Alternative Desk Chairs for the Stylish Office — via @TheFoxandShe

My freelance business turned into a full time job with my move to Chicago over three years ago. Before that, I had a makeshift desk space in my room, but decided that I needed my new home office to look a bit more inspired and professional. I was going to be spending a lot of time in that small office, so it needed to be really comfortable.

To keep that office looking cozy, I decided against a regular desk chair and opted for a custom upholstered dining chair that added some pattern and personality to my space. I ended up adding a fun rug from Lulu & Georgia too! You can see my old office here if you want! I really loved that office space because it was totally separate from the rest of the apartment and made it easy to get focused during the day and shut off work at the end of the day.

Our new place is smaller and so keeping my work space organized and tidy is key to keeping my sanity! As much as I love that upholstered chair, it’s seen better days. The fabric is ripped in a few places and looking a bit dingy, so lately I’ve been browsing ideas for new desk chairs. Again, I don’t want anything that looks to ‘officey’, but something that ties in with the rest of our apartment since my work space is now right by the kitchen/living/dining rooms — I told you it was small!

I haven’t purchased anything yet, because I’m not sure which one I like best! I’m stuck between the Ghost Chair, the Wishbone Chair and the Eames-style plastic chair. I love the Ghost Chair because it’s low profile and will keep the place looking bigger and I love the Wishbone Chair because I love the shape and color. The plastic chair is just one I’ve loved forever! Originally that’s what I wanted for our dining table, but couldn’t find them cheap enough (until now). Do you have any favorites? Which one should I pick?!

How to Style Your Patio https://thefoxandshe.com/how-to-style-your-patio/ https://thefoxandshe.com/how-to-style-your-patio/#comments Tue, 19 May 2015 10:00:00 +0000 https://thefoxandshe.com/?p=13248

Guys, yesterday was HOT. I’m not complaining, but I’m not used to it. I did enjoy the excuse to pull out an eyelet dress I got at Madewell last year and these new perforated wedges. Now that we’re mostly settled into our little home, I’m starting to focus on our patio space since it’s finally time to use it. Our last place didn’t have any outdoor space, so I’m looking forward to getting this balcony of ours looking perfect for summer!

When thinking about how to style your patio, I think it can go one of two ways. You either outfit it as an dining area or as a outdoor living room. I love the idea of both of them! But if you’re trying to decide between the two, think about what you do when you’re outdoors. If you’re planning on cooking up a storm and entertaining your friends then the dining area might be for you! How adorable is this red smoker from World Market. You can pick up all the accessories you need for grilling too — even down to the BBQ sauce!

If you’re using your patio space as an outdoor oasis where you can just hang out, read a book or enjoy a cocktail, then the outdoor living room might be a better fit for you. I love this retro cooler that would be perfect for storing drinks and this outdoor rug that really makes this space feel like an extension of your living room. These green outdoor chairs also come in a pretty periwinkle blue, red and white, so feel free to mix and match!

World Market has a ton of amazing options for whatever type of patio you want and for whatever size fits your home! I’m still debating which route we’ll go, but either way, these Edison string lights are an absolute must!

The Final Touches https://thefoxandshe.com/anthropologie-home-decor/ https://thefoxandshe.com/anthropologie-home-decor/#comments Tue, 12 May 2015 10:00:00 +0000 https://thefoxandshe.com/?p=12639 Anthropologie home decor section this weekend to hide from Dallas' storms and I came across way too many things I wanted.]]>

We’ve officially been in our place for a little over a week now! While all the boxes are unpacked, there’s still a fair amount of work to be done. I haven’t hung any pictures on the wall and I’m already finding that there’s things we need to accomadate the new space. Our entryway is narrow, we have a second bathroom and a patio — all things we didn’t have in the last place.

My sister and I were browsing the Anthropologie home decor section this weekend to hide from Dallas’ storms and I came across wayyyy too many things I wanted. Thankfully nothing I fell in love with was too expensive and they’d add the perfect final touches to our place! These candles are my absolute favorite and if you’re not sure what scent to get, I highly recommend French Cade Lavendar, Mokara or Baltic Amber. We’re also in desperate need of a nicer-looking shower curtain, but I’m having trouble deciding on one that isn’t too girly, suggestions?

My first order of business is getting things hung, but my second order of business will be fixing up these little spaces to make our new place feel like home. Which little touches are your favorite?

I mentioned last week that we found a new place and will be moving in just a few short weeks. I’m still in shock that it all happened so fast, but I’m also really excited! We have a house full of furniture we like, so we won’t be getting and new big pieces, but adding new little details is such an easy way to make a room (or in this case, a whole apartment) feel totally fresh and new!

When it comes to decorating and redecorating, I always go to Furbish, West Elm, Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters for special, unique decorative objects that will make a statement without requiring a full redesign. Some of the easiest updates are rearranging shelves or updating pillowcases as seasons change! I’m in love with this pillow and this tray. I’m continuously trying to grow my collection of coffee table books and this would be the perfect way to display them. I also love stacking books and topping them with a cool decorative object like this glass knot or these sculptural spheres! I’m also a sucker for a cool light fixture and would love a chandelier like this someday!

What’s your favorite way to give your home a seasonal update?
