I’m getting married in August, and can’t decide if I want to keep my current middle name or make my maiden name my “new” middle name. My current middle name is my mother’s maiden, and the name will “die” with me if I don’t pass it down to my (hopefully) future children. I have also come to cherish my last name, and working at my family’s longtime local business, see the benefit of having that last name as a middle name if nothing else. Neither my mother or my fiance are particularly opinionated on the subject, although my finace thinks it would be more practical to use my current last name as my middle. If anyone has been in a similar predicament I would love to hear what they did!

I kept my maiden name because I identify so strongly with it. But my mom did the same thing you did – took her maiden name as her middle when she married. I think it’s such a great way to keep your maiden name alive!

But I also had all my degrees and research under my maiden name so I kinda wanted all that work to be associated with the name I always had. I also grew up with a long last name and thought, hey! maybe if I married someone with a shorter name, I’ll change it (I always run out of boxes on the bubble sheet). I momentarily thought about hyphenating: Parthasarathy-Christensen, but as you can see, it is utterly ridiculous. My husband doesn’t care whatsoever and after hearing how difficult it was for you and lots of other women I know (some who got married & changed, divorced & changed, remarried & changed) I think I’ll stay with my maiden. I love this post by the way. So funny how parents don’t realize all this stuff until later! My parents did the same to me so it is nice to know I have someone in the same boat! ❤️

I was always the girl that wasn’t getting married and I’ve already made a name for myself with my maiden name. My future hubby to be really wants me to change it but I’m not sure. I’m also considering a hyphen. I’m not sure what exactly to do but I’m glad I have some time!

My wife changed her name and it was a simple process for us. Is it okay to share a link to the step-by-step process we used? Thank you.
