Tell Me About Your First Date
A few months ago I wrote a little story about how Rob and I met, but I didn’t elaborate much more than that, leaving it with one of those ‘and the rest is history’ endings, when in reality, we all know that all the things that happen in between are equally as memorable. One thing I’ve never shared (at least I don’t think), is Rob and I’s very first date, and it’s sort of a funny story.
The quick back story is that Rob and I knew each other throughout college, but didn’t date until after we graduated, so our first date was less than typical. Right after we graduated college, we went on a long trip to Europe with a group of friends. Somewhere along the way, Rob announced to me that he wanted to take me on a date when we got home. By the end of the trip, we were pretty much inseparable and I think we were already ‘dating’ by the time our official first date rolled around.
Once we were stateside, Rob formally asked me out for our very first date—sushi at Raku in Dallas. I wonder if it still exists! The date was sort of a weird one though. We’d eaten meals together hundreds of times at this point, but this was the first time that it was just the two of us. The other strange part was the conversation, but not for the reasons you’d think.
Being on a first date, you expect the dialog to go a certain way, but all the things you normally talk about on a first date—where you’re from, what you do, where’d you go to school, do you have siblings, etc.—had already been answered. We already knew each other so well that the whole premise of a first date just seemed hilarious. Either way, we had a great time, and a few days later we had a second date and then we stopped counting because we were already dating and dates were no longer remembered by the number, but about the conversations we had and the fun times spent with each other.
Speaking of dates though, this outfit—skinny jeans, a cute top and booties—is my most worn date night outfit. Probably because I always feel stylish and confident in this combination. This red coat really makes the little dots on this shirt stand out! I mentioned these boots in this post, but wanted to mention them again because they’re now my most worn this fall. They’re a little stiff at first, but quickly loosen up and are so comfortable!
It definitely wasn’t the most traditional first date, but still fun to think about the beginning of our relationship and sitting at that table having no idea where our future would take us or even that he’d be the man I married.
So, tell me about your first date with your boyfriend or husband? Or if you have a bad first date story, please spill!!
