If you’ve been around here for a while, you know I’m a Beautycounter junkie. I’ve never been one of those girls with naturally perfect skin.

But, since switching to clean beauty, my skin has transformed!

I’ve finally found a routine (I listed it all below) that works for me and keeps my skin hydrated, and keeps breakouts at bay. It’s given me back my confidence and allowed me to focus on other things in my life instead of breakouts.

First thing’s first! If you’re not already on my Clean Beauty List, I highly (wink, wink) suggest you join before you place your order! Click here to subscribe!

Okay, now onto the good stuff because I wanted you to feel confident with your purchase and also make sure you’re getting exactly what you want and need. I broke it down into four sections: makeup, skincare (morning and night) and family care (sun, guys, kids, babies!) to make it easier if you’re only looking in one category.

If you’re still wondering why safer beauty is something you should invest in for your overall health, scroll down to the bottom—I’ve got a section on that because I know it’s still new for a lot of people!

Okay, now, on with it!

Best of Beautycounter Makeup

I actually like to call this my 5-minute mama makeup routine, because I have about 5 minutes (or less) to get ready in the mornings with Owen. It’s also perfect if you’re someone who doesn’t like spending a ton of time doing your makeup (also me!) in the morning.

This routine is minimal, but gorgeous and I’m also sharing a few extra items that you could add-on to your order that will basically complete your makeup bag. Those items are all things I love and use on a regular basis as well!

Tint Skin Hydrating Foundation:

I know this is a reader favorite too because I see it in so many of your orders! It’s the perfect medium coverage foundation that keeps your skin feeing hydrated and glowing. I’ve tried other safer brands and they end up looking dry and flaky—not this one! It goes on smoothly and you can build it for more coverage when needed.

I wear the shade Sand in the summer and mix in a bit of Linen in the winter when I’m fairer. I know it can be scary to pick a color without trying it first, but I find that this color picker is really great. And, if you totally mess up and get the wrong color, Beautycounter has an amazing return policy, so don’t worry about it!

If you’re not really into foundation, but still want a little something, you should get the Dew Skin. It’s a tinted moisturizer and has SPF 20 in it as well! I love this for days when I don’t want to do a full face, but still want a little bit of coverage and sun protection.

Touch-up Concealer Pen:

I love this pen for my under eyes and of course covering and blemishes. I wear the Light shade.

Brow Gel:

If you haven’t tried this one yet, I encourage you to add it to your cart! It’s one of our newer products and easily one of my favorites. Even when I have on minimal makeup and this, I look totally pulled together. I wear medium and it’s perfect for my medium-dark brows.

Satin Blush:

I love this blush! It adds just the perfect amount of color to your cheeks. I wear Nectar which isn’t overly pink, so gorgeous! I’ve heard that it’s VERY similar to NARS Orgasm which is apparently a really popular color, and this is just a safer version.

Volumizing Mascara:

This gives me long, full lashes that make my eyes pop! There’s also a Lengthening mascara, but I find that it doesn’t pack the same punch as the volumizing one.

Lip Color:

Where to start, haha! I have so many Beautycounter lip glosses and lipsticks that it’s hard to pick a favorite. The good news, they’re all safe and all gorgeous, so you can’t really go wrong.

Lately, I’ve been layering lip gloss over my lipstick because I find that it keeps my dry lips more hydrated and I love how the little bit of shine it adds. You can obviously wear them separate as well. A few of my favorite colors for spring:

Color Intense Lipsticks:

Beautycounter Red and 9 to 5 are my go-tos. I’d say that I wear 9 to 5 the most, but love switching it up with a pop of red! I also love First Date & Garden Party for a bright pop of pink in spring and summer. You can easily tone any of the colors down by swiping the Bare Shimmer gloss over them.

Sheer Lipstick:

Terra, Lily (more neutrals), Orchid (more pink) and Currant (so pretty for fall!)

Lip Gloss:

Peony, Dahlia, Azalea & Bare Shimmer (looks really pretty layered over lipsticks)

Extras:

For the most part, the above is the makeup I wear every day (unless I don’t put any on), but I also love having a few things to dress up my look. One of them is this Illuminating Highlighter. I have the Pearl Glow and use it to brighten my eyes. It makes such a big difference and is such an easy step, I actually end up doing this almost everyday too.

For bronzer, I have this one in Dune and I use it when I’m going out for a date or with the girls—anytime I want to look a little nicer. I only use it then mostly because of laziness, which is dumb because it takes 2 seconds to apply and looks amazing. It reminds me of the Hoola one I used to buy, but it’s safer!

Lastly, I bought this eye palette almost a year ago and it’s still going strong. I don’t wear eye shadow all the time, but love having this classic one on hand. The colors are all stunning and neutral and easy to apply. I usually just do one color on my lids because I’m not that good at makeup and I always love how it turns out! If you have fair skin and blond hair, I’d suggest you check out this palette too. My mom is fairer and this is the palette that she went with, so you might find that it’s better for your skin tone!

Morning Routine

Cleanse:

I’ve gotten into a lazier routine these days and in the mornings, I just splash warm water on my face. But, if you feel the need to cleanse, I’d go with the Countermatch Cleansing Milk. It’s gentle, won’t over-dry your skin and is perfect for just about all skin-types.

If you have oily, breakout-prone skin, try the Countercontrol Cleanser. If you get breakouts, but don’t truly have oily skin, just make sure you hydrate properly so you don’t over dry your skin. I use this one when I feel like my skin needs a little extra help.

Toner:

I use the Countertime Mineral Boost Hydrating Essence. I’ve also heard from you guys that you love the toner pads! The Essence has that natural retinol in it which is amazing for aging skin and it helps with hydration. I absolutely love it! I find that it helps with brightening and evening my skin tone.

Moisturizer:

Depending on your skin type, you’ll want something different! For just about anyone, I highly suggest the Countermatch Adaptive Moisturizer—this is a cult favorite, hah! I love it, and Rob actually uses it everyday as well.

Once or twice a week, I’ll mix in a few drops of this Brightening Oil . It helps balance skin tone and brightens dark spots.

During the winter months when my skin desperately needs an extra dose of hydration, I’ve been applying this Countermatch Intense Moisture Serum before my moisturizer and it has been a game-changer. My skin is more hydrated, makeup doesn’t flake off and best of all, my skin is clearer!

Eye Cream:

I use the Countermatch Ultra Renewal eye cream both morning and night and it is wonderful! It has natural retinol so it helps with fine lines, brightens eyes and smooths the skin around your eyes. I can tell it’s made a huge difference. It lasts a long time because you don’t have to use too much too.

Evening Routine

Remove Makeup:

I use these Makeup Remover wipes every night to remove my makeup. They’re great for travel and actually biodegradable so when I finally get my composting box going I can toss them in there. I often use the the Cleansing Balm as a makeup remover too. It does an amazing job!

Cleanse:

After my makeup is off, I either use the Cleansing Balm or Countertime Cleansing Oil again. With the balm, I use about an almond-size amount of massage it into dry skin. This stuff is amazing and is easily my favorite part of my routine. It’s so hydrating and feels so good. It gets deep into your pores and after using it religiously for the past month, I’ve noticed that I have less blackheads which is AMAZING.

You can use it like a mask too and just leave it on for 10-15 minutes before you get in the shower. It smells amazing and leaves your skin feeling silk smooth. Definitely worth buying during the sale while you get 15% off!

Toner:

I use the same Countertime Essence one as the morning to prep my skin for hydration & serums.

Serums & Moisturizer:

Night time is the time to add all those magical potions! I typically use the Overnight Peel or Countertime Tripeptide Radiance Serum, which has the natural retinol—so great for cell turnover, brightening and anti-aging. I don’t use these on the same night, so I typically just alternate. If I notice my skin is extra dry, I’ll add that Countertime Intense Moisture Serum before I put on either of these.

I finish up with the Countertime Tetrapeptide Supreme Cream—which is heavenly. It’s thick, rich and deeply hydrating. Again, it has the natural retinol, which is totally safe for pregnancy too, and fights aging. The Countermatch Sleeping Cream is also a great one if you need hydration, but not quite as much as the Countertime one.

Eye Cream:

Again, I use this Countertime Ultra Renewal eye cream at night too!

Body & Hair

Body Wash:

This might be a surprise, but my favorite body wash is actually the Counterman body wash. It smells great and I love the activated charcoal in it. I feel like it helps keep any breakouts on my back or chest at bay. The Citrus Mimosa body wash is a close runner-up though!

Body Lotion:

I use the Countermatch Body Lotion when I get out of the shower, but if you have super dry skin, definitely try the Body Butter—it’ll be more hydrating and healing.

Haircare:

I started using the Daily Shampoo & Conditioner about a month ago and have been so impressed! My natural hair texture has really come back and always looks and feels hydrated and healthy! The trick, use very little as it’s very concentrated and using too much can make your hair feel heavy and greasy.

For styling, I love the Sea Salt Spray for air-dried beachy summer waves.

For your Family

Babies & Kids:

We used the baby line on Owen since he was born. The gentle all over baby wash was our go-to. The baby oil is great for keeping his sensitive skin hydrated and the Diaper Rash cream has become a staple in the past month—he weirdly gets diaper rashes more often now, but this always makes them go away in a day.

countermatch & counterman

Suncare:

We’re heading to the beach soon so I just stocked up on sunscreen. I have the lotion kind, a small version of the mist and the stick because the stick is so much easier to apply to Owen. Since it’s a mineral sunscreen, just make sure you’re reapplying every couple of hours!

Guys:

If you missed it, a few months ago, Counterman launched and Rob has loved it. I actually LOVE the body wash, so much that I just ordered that as a replacement for myself. It smells so good!

Home:

Mom life comes with a lot of dishes, haha! My hands have been drier this year than in my entire life, so I now keep hand wash and cream by the sink so I can keep them from drying out. Love this set! Makes for a great little gift too.

Why Clean Beauty?

If you’re newer to my blog, welcome! You’ll quickly find that making safer choices for myself and my family is really important to me. Here’s just a few stats because, the numbers speak for themselves

  • The U.S. hasn’t passed any laws in the cosmetic industry since 1938.
  • The E.U. has banned or restricted 1400 ingredients. The U.S. has banned or restricted only 30. Beautycounter bans 1800!
  • 200+ chemicals were found in a newborn’s umbilical cord in a Red Cross Study

Many of the ingredients used in traditional products are known endocrine disruptors that can lead hormone disruption, fertility issues and so much more. If swapping out our products for safer ones means we’re exposed to less toxins on a daily basis, why would you not want to?!

Do they work?

I think this is most people’s fear—but rest assured, you’re getting highly-performing, quality product that works VERY well! If you’re looking for a powerhouse product, I can’t recommend the Resurfacing Peel more—it is a best seller for good reason. Try it for a week and you’ll see what I mean!

Why Beautycounter vs. other clean brands?

That’s honestly up to you! Beautycounter’s mission is to get safer product in the hands of everyone, not get Beautycounter into the hands of everyone.

But, with our mission, we also provide a solution, and that’s high-quality, effective skincare products that rival the best brands at the department stores. At the end of the day, where you buy is up to you, but I just hope you pick safer products!

I have no idea what to get!

That’s okay! Beautycounter has this amazing skincare quiz to help guide you to the best skincare line for you!

Sustainable

Whether you’re into sustainability or not, I think it’s amazing that Beautycounter is working to always be as sustainable as they can be. They’ve moved all their glass production to North America to reduce emissions and are working to add more glass containers to reduce plastic use. All plastics used in packaging are safe as well—though that was probably obvious.

What if I get the wrong color or don’t like it?

That’s okay. I’m pretty positive you’ll fall in love with the products, but understand that sometimes it doesn’t happen. Beautycounter has a very generous 60-day return policy, so you can feel good about making a purchase.

I find this especially helpful for makeup because picking a color from the internet can be tricky. This color finder makes it a lot easier, but don’t fret if you get it wrong!

I know this was a long one, but I wanted to make sure you had as much information as possible to make the best choices for you! If you have any questions, feel free to DM on Instagram me for the quickest reply if you’re not sure what’s best.

Cheers to cleaner, safer beauty!
