Home Decor Inspiration for our New Place

If you missed it, we bought a house earlier this month and move in about 4 weeks—eek! I am in love with it and cannot wait to get in it and start making it our own. It has great bones and thankfully was updated in 2009 and has been well-maintained so we won’t have any big crazy projects, just some cosmetic updates to make the space feel like our home.

I’ve literally been collecting inspiration for years. YEARS! It’s actually been fun to look back and see how my own personal taste has evolved over the years and what I’m finding now is that I’m maybe a bit more traditional than I once thought!

While I’m excited to share this post with you guys, selfishly, this post helped me out a ton too. Since I have so many photos saved, this helped me narrow down my own style a lot. Turns out I really lean towards bright, white space, some contrast, natural wood and the occasional pop of color.

What I really love about all these spaces is that they’re not fussy. They look comfortable, cozy and lived in, but are still peaceful and serene. To me, that’s everything I want in our home!

Home Decor Inspiration

Dining Room

Our dining room is pretty small (you can see all the before images of our house in this post), but I’d love to add some texture to the walls and love how these black light fixtures pop against the white.

Boys’ Rooms

This will be a project for down the line, but wanted to include these because they’re both so cute. I love that they’re mature enough, but still fun and whimsical for kiddos.

Mudroom

I can’t tell you how excited I am to have a mudroom! Ours is currently white with dark slate tiles and I have no issues with that, but it could be a fun project for the future. I do love the white, but did notice that there’s plenty of scuffs, so thought maybe we’d go darker in here at some point—thoughts?!

Front Door & Entryway

Right now our door is a brown/maroon color—not my fave. We’re planning on having the trim on our house repainted (it’s currently green), and at the same time, I think we’ll paint the door. I’ve always loved the idea of a blue-ish door and love all these. I think I’m leaning more towards the second two which have a touch of green/grey to them which I think will match our home’s exterior color (ivory/white) better.

Laundry Room

This will be a project for the future! Our laundry room is in the basement and is totally functional, but not pretty. There’s lots of pipes and stuff coming from the ceiling so figuring out how to make this space prettier will be a challenge. I do love these though!

Kitchen

Our kitchen cabinets are white with black countertops and dark blue backsplash. Eventually, I’d love brighter countertops and a white backsplash, but still love some contrast. I love the dark island in the first place and while I don’t think we’ll get into painting all the cabinets, I have really loved the taupe-ish cabinets I’ve been seeing a lot of lately!

Powder Bath

A small area, but very lackluster in it’s current state. I’d love to brighten it up with a unique vanity and new lighting. It’ll definitely get painted, but I’d also consider tile or wallpaper in there too!

Living Room

Lastly, our more formal living room in the front of the house. These two spaces both just look so warm and inviting—I can’t wait to have a glass of wine in there!

I could go on and on, but hopefully this gives you guys a better idea of our style. I can’t wait to take you through the process! Only a few more weeks until we move in, but probably longer until we really get into projects since Baby 2 is due any day now!

What’s your home decor style? Do you lean more towards bright and light or dark and moody?
