There was a lot of trial and error that went into this recipe.
If I’m being honest, I drank several so-so smoothies and some downright nasty ones trying to get it just right. I made Jess try one earlier this week and she literally spat it out. Hey, sometimes it takes a few tries before getting a recipe just perfect! Ultimately, I decided to keep it simple and guess what? Simple tastes better than my complicated version.
After all those bad taste tests, I finally landed on a recipe that’s the perfect balance of sweet, citrusy, healthy and filling and I’ve been whipping it up ever since! I usually eat fruit in the morning, but I’ve been loving the change to smoothies, especially on hot days. They’re so refreshing! If morning smoothies aren’t your thing, they make for an easy afternoon snack!
To keep things easy, I used frozen fruit that I can buy in bulk and keep in the freezer. I added spinach for an extra dose of greens, chia seeds for protein, and ground flaxseed for fiber. Did you know that 97% of Americans don’t get enough fiber in their diets?! That’s pretty crazy! So, if you’re like me and trying to get more fiber in there, this smoothie will help you out! Along with that flaxseed, the spinach and fruit will also give you some added fiber. I went with tropical fruits for this one, but honestly, any fruit would probably be delicious, so feel free to play around!
Oh, and if you’re looking for an inexpensive blender that makes the perfect single smoothie, I couldn’t recommend this one more! It’s easy to use and super easy to clean! It actually comes with two blender cups—one for a single smoothie, and a larger one for bigger batches.
