The other day I was trying to hang up some laundry and I could barely squeeze my shirts on the rack and realized that it was time for a mega closet purge. I try to do this every few months or at least at the change of seasons and clearly I was due for the first clean out of the year — sigh.

I sort of have a love-hate relationship with purging my closet. I love how it feels to get rid of the excess junk, but I hate actually doing it. For this go around I set aside a whole afternoon and followed Shaheen’s advice and started by taking everything out of my closet and going through it piece by piece. It’s tedious, but it works!

The pieces that ended up staying were the classic and neutral pieces, jeans and black dresses that never seem to go out of style as well as a few of my favorites. Some of the trendy pieces that I’d only worn once were put in a pile to donate or sell. The best part? All the cleaning out has made room for new pieces for spring! One piece that I just added are these lace-up tassel sandals that I’m swooning over — you can probably see why.

I spotted these Loeffler Randall beauties a few weeks ago and quickly made them mine. They were a bit of an investment, but I had some gift cards leftover for Christmas that made them totally reasonable. Like I mentioned earlier this year, I’m focusing on filling my closet with classic, neutral and timeless pieces, and these sandals fit that bill. The tassel detail makes them extra special and takes a simple outfit like this one up a notch! Also, they’re pretty comfortable as far as heels are concerned and they also come in black.

Even though it’s not exactly warm in Chicago, I’m starting to work spring pieces into my everyday wear. It makes me a little bit more hopeful about spring and excited for upcoming travel plans!

Have you started shopping for spring yet? What do you think about these lace up tassel sandals?!

P.S. If you filled out the survey I posted yesterday, thank you! If not, I’d be so grateful if you did, it’s super quick and provides me with so much valuable information to make the site better for you! You can fill it out here! Thanks a million!!
