5 More Minutes of Me Time

morning me time

Conical Burr Coffee Grinder | Pour-Over Coffee Maker with Water Tank | Food Scale with Pull Out Display | Adjustable Temperature Kettle

If you had an extra 30, 15, or even just 5 minutes each morning, what would YOU do with it? Sleep? Take a few minutes for yourself? Shower a little extra longer? Get your coffee going while you make breakfast? That last one is what I’ve been doing lately!

My day pretty much starts as soon as I get out of bed—milk for Owen, then we all get dressed, then breakfast for us both, then I clean up the kitchen and go on with our day. Before I know it, any semblance of “me time” is gone.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m very thankful that I get to be a mom and that this is my morning. But, it would be nice to make a cup of decaf (yes, still on that decaf wagon) without a child grabbing the back of my legs, or to enjoy it on the couch without getting climbed all over!

What really ends up happening is that I wait until Owen is down for his first nap, then I have that relaxing morning to myself. Over the holidays, we got this pour-over coffee maker from OXO and it’s perfect for making a single cup. I can make my cup decaf and Rob can make his cup regular—everyone gets exactly what they want!

Since I don’t have to worry about rushing, I’ve been taking the time to fresh grind my beans in this grinder and then weigh it all out before pouring hot water into the water tank. Weighing it makes all the difference! I’m not a coffee pro, but a quick search suggested 1-2 grams of coffee per ounce of water and it worked for me! If you like it stronger, definitely go for the 2 grams per ounce.

It’s a small little thing, but I love the process of making it and the water tank addition to the pour-over process makes it so you don’t have to spend the time tediously pouring water for those important 3-5 minutes. So much of our day is hurried and rushed about and it feels good to slow down and be present in the moment, even if it’s something as simple as making a cup of coffee. As a working mom, I’m short on time for myself, but it’s so important to give yourself a break and just stop for a moment and do something just for you!

Share what you would do with a few extra minutes of me time!
