Distracted

For the past month, I’ve noticed that there’s this weird sense of anxiousness about work, and getting started each morning is near impossible. At first I thought it was just a ‘hangover’ from my Europe trip, but then I wondered, am I bored with my job? Where the heck is this all coming from? I definitely had a trip hangover, but I still love my job and I think the real distraction is, simply, summertime.

I want to spend every waking hour outside at Farmer’s Markets, going on walks, exploring new neighborhoods, taking pictures, going to street festivals, watching movies in the park, eating meals on sidewalk cafes & drinking wine on my patio. I suppose it makes plenty of sense. Winter keeps me cooped up indoors for several months since it’s so cold! So yes, it makes sense, I just didn’t realize how much the weather was going to affect my productivity.

You’d think I’d have my fill of outdoor time after an hour long walk through the park and down the lake with Oliver each morning, but when we get back all I want to do is relax on my patio — not go into my office. Once I start working I’m fine, I get really locked into whatever I’m designing or coding, but it’s just getting to my desk chair & turning on the computer that’s such a challenge.

Maybe I should set summer hours? Maybe take my office to the coffee shop down the street and work from there for a bit? Either way, I need to figure something out. I’d love to hear any tips! Please, let me know how you deal with summer’s distractions!

I totally understand!! Try adding something to your morning that gives you a reason to get up, even just a special coffee!

That’s a great idea, I’m working on getting less frustrated with myself when I have a not-so-productive day. It’s not the end of the world and everyday can’t be perfect!

Yes for sure!! Perfection is the WORST standard to live by!! Life is so short..enjoy it!
