Give up a Bad Habit

Ahh, another Monday! I hope you had a good weekend, I know I did. My boyfriend made an impromptu trip to Brussels (a city that’s close to my heart) with a few friends, one who conveniently works for an airline. Thus leaving me at home to my crafty wits.

I’d been wanting to tackle a few home improvement projects, but instead I went out with friends and was too tired during the day to actually accomplish any big projects.

This weekend also marked the end of restaurant week in Chicago. We had reservations at Mercadito, but they managed to lose the reservation we’d made 2 weeks early. So we went to dinner at Bar Toma, which was absolutely delicious. If you go, I highly recommend the charred carrots. Sounds weird, but oh.my.gosh. they are delish. They also had great drinks & pizza — made in their wood-burning oven. It’s perfect for big groups because all their items are meant for sharing, so I got to try a multitude of delicious things!

We were still a bit disappointed that we didn’t get to go to Mercadito, but they did make it up so us with bottle service in their bar below the restaurant. Let’s just say it was the the start to a longggg but really fun night!

I squeezed in a yoga class that left me incredibly sore (if you think yoga is easy, you haven’t done yoga sculpt), got in some good girl time and now I’m ready to go back to the daily grind. The reason why I feel so refreshed is rather simple. I gave up a bad habit for Lent that’s allowing me to intentionally enjoy my free time.

So what is that bad habit? Checking email constantly. I don’t think it’s good for my brain to be checking email all the time, especially after work is over during the week, and on the weekends — that’s just a big no-no. It never allows you to kick back and enjoy your life, friends and family. And those are the things that makes life so great!

I got the idea from Jess at Makeunder my Life, and tried her Email Intervention challenge, but it was in the height of moving and I had movers, realtors and other random people calling and emailing all the time and I had to get those things done. So now that things have settled down, I’m in it for good.

No more emails after 7pm on weekdays and no email on the weekends! It’s not easy because it’s become a habit, but I turned off the noises on my phone and moved the app on my iPhone to the second page of apps so I’m not tempted to look at it. And you know what, it’s working so far!

Have you tried this? Has it improved your life or made you more content? Are you going to try now? I’d love to hear!
