I don’t know about you, but there’s something about getting dressed and ready in the morning that just starts my day on the right foot. If I feel pulled together, I get more done, I’m more productive and efficient and I just feel better! Part of getting ready, is putting on makeup. I’ll be honest I don’t wear makeup everyday, especially the days I’m home with Owen. I think it’s important to give our skin a break, so if I’m not going anywhere except for on a walk or to the gym, I skip it. But, the days I’m going to a coffee shop or meetings, I do put it on. I used to wear more makeup, but as my skin has cleared (woo hoo!), I’m able to wear less. This is also a huge bonus because I have less and less time each morning as Owen gets busier and busier. I swear, every time I turn around he’s gotten into something new! As fun as it is to watch him explore new things, I wish he would sit still for 5 minutes so I could get ready without worrying about what he’s trying to put in his mouth (dog toys are his new favorite, ha!). I’ve just about switched every single product in my makeup bag to a clean one (except mascara—suggestions welcome!) and it makes me feel better about putting it on each morning. Here’s my safer makeup routine for everyday wear—the best part? It only takes me about 5 minutes from start to finish which is a huge win if you’re a mama! Safe Makeup Routine SPF Always the first step after my morning skincare routine! I used to never wear SPF on my face and started getting dark spots on my forehead. I’ve since learned that sun damage is the number one factor to early aging and SPF can easily help out. I use Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen. It’s super lightweight, goes on smoothly and is clear, so there’s no white residue. It helps smooth skin and acts as a primer under makeup. Foundation I’ve tried so many foundations, but keep coming back to this one. It’s lightweight, provides a good amount of coverage, and can be layered for more coverage. I’ve worn it through hot sweaty days and it holds up great! You can use a foundation brush to apply it, but I just use my clean fingers to apply it. Powder My skin is on the oilier side, so I like to brush on just a little bit of this mattifying powder to keep my skin looking matte. This one is translucent so it will work for all skin colors. Eyes My go to eye makeup is eyeliner and mascara. I’ve been using this eye pencil and I really love it. It’s easy to blend for a smoky, soft look which I like! As for mascara, this one area I haven’t switched over yet to a clean one. I’ve tried several safe mascaras and just haven’t loved them. They tend to get dry and brittle and hurt my eyes, so for now I’m still using my drugstore favorite—The Colossal from Maybelline. If I’m feeling fancy, I’ll use this eye shadow palette, but I don’t put on eye shadow everyday. I really love this one because the colors are so pretty—thinks browns, coppers and bronzes. I can create a bunch of different looks—something for everyday wear and date night all in one palette. Blush & Bronzer Lastly, I like to apply a little bit of this bronzer around my hairline and under my cheekbones. Last is blush—and frankly, one of the most important steps in my book. I always feel like I look tired or washed out when I don’t have blush on. Honestly, I prefer a more natural shade of blush than a really pink one and this nectar color is gorgeous! I haven’t tried this cream blush, but I’ve heard great things about it! Honestly, I think it’d be perfect if you’re really low maintenance and want a product that works on your cheeks and lips! Also, it’d be great to throw in your gym bag for a little color after your workout if your going straight to lunch or back to work! Lips I always start with chapstick or some sort of balm to make sure my lips stay hydrated and then I finish it up with one of these lip sheers. I love the color intense lipsticks for date night, but for everyday wear, the lip sheer is perfect! Right now, Terra and Lily are my favorite colors. Do you wear makeup on a regular basis?
