If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that I just spent a wild weekend in New Orleans for my high school friend, Erin’s, bachelorette party. It was my first time to New Orleans and after everything I’ve ever heard about the city, I was thrilled to finally get to check it out for myself.
Naturally, my flight was delayed for 2 hours, so when I landed I’d missed the other girls who flew in, so I hitched a ride with a bachelor party group to my hotel, raced upstairs to change clothes and meet everyone at the restaurant. It was sort of crazy that for as long as I’ve known Erin, I hadn’t met most of the people at the party. I’d heard all their names, so it was nice to finally put them with faces. Everyone was so sweet and so much fun to be with. By the weekend’s end I was wishing they’d all just move to Chicago so we could keep the party going.
Night one we ate a Red Fish Grill which was pretty tasty! I’m a sucker for a good piece of seared tuna and since it was a seafood restaurant that’s just what I got. The shrimp and grits across the table from me looked pretty amazing too. I even tried a fried oyster and liked it! Like any wild night in New Orleans, we went out on Bourbon Street and, well, drank a lot.
The next morning was a little rough, but after a mimosa and a few orders of fries and bacon (yes, as an appetizer — hungover much?), we were feeling better. The afternoon was spent in the Garden District on the front porch of the Columns Hotel for drinks. It was hot out, but not too hot and the patio had a nice breeze. Sitting there made me feel I’d gone back in time. This is totally what people in the deep south did back in the day, right? It’s a simple lifestyle, but surely an enjoyable one.
Night two we ate at a great Italian restaurant called Domenica. They surprised us with our own private room for the night, which was amazing! Let’s face it, 20 girls can get real loud and after a few bottles of wine are added to the mix, it gets even louder. One of the coolest things about the room was that we got to stroll through the kitchen to get there. It was the perfect preview of what was to come. We ordered a salami & cheese tray to start, side note: I seriously think I could live on cheese, meats, good bread and wine alone. Our end of the table couldn’t make any decisions, so we ordered 5 dishes and all shared. Prosciutto & arugula pizza, a Quattro Formaggi pizza, squid ink and crab pasta, lamb tortelloni, and sweet corn and shrimp risotto. Holy cow, just typing that made my mouth water. It was all so freaking delicious, and you could bring in your own wine, which was great when it came down to the bill. The wait staff was pretty incredible too and overall we couldn’t have asked for a better place to be with a group that size.
The lingerie shower was next and that was a blast, but sadly those details will have to remain offline. Too many penis cookies. Although, a few did make their way to Instagram, sorry about that Aunt Sally. We went out afterwards and finally crawled into bed around 4am.
Now that I’m back, sleep is high on my agenda this week — I’m thoroughly exhausted. Needless to say, the weekend was a huge success! I had a blast meeting all these new girls and can’t wait to see them again at the wedding. And for any of you trying to decide what to do for a bachelorette party, I highly recommend New Orleans, it was a blast and you certainly won’t regret it!
