Mother’s Day is so dang close, I can hardly believe it! This time last year was so different—Owen was only 5 months old, I was still breastfeeding and we were about to move. If you can avoid moving with a small child, do it. It’s not easy or fun. Thankfully, we got help from Rob’s mom and the Neat Method.
By Mother’s day, we were thankfully settled into our new place and getting acquainted with our new neighborhood. This year we’ll be in Florida which I’m really excited about, but more on that another day.
Back to Mother’s Day! Typically, we’re not big gift people over here. We’re more about experiences and taking the day to celebrate each other on our respective days by going to our favorite restaurants, getting a donut, cooking our favorite meal, etc. When we do gifts, it’s typically a card and something small like flowers, and for me—that’s perfect.
But, every once in a while, it’s nice to be surprised!
For me, the most meaningful and special gifts to be surprised with are sentimental things, usually jewelry. I don’t have a ton of jewelry, but the pieces that I do have and wear regularly are all classic, simple and timeless.
I have a sweet ‘O’ initial necklace that Rob gave me when Owen was born, a heart shaped diamond necklace from my grandparents that I got when I graduated college, and most recently, I have this beautiful locket from Monica Rich Kosann that has a picture of our little family on one side and Owen on the other.
I wear the same jewelry pretty much everyday (those three necklaces), and I love that each one of them has sentimental value and is just so special!
If you’re in need of a gift idea, or if you’re a guy—listen up—I highly highly recommend you check out Monica Rich Kosann’s collection of lockets. They come in a variety of different metals like gold, rose gold and silver and styles! Some bigger, some smaller, some with simpler, some more ornate—basically, there’s something for everyone. I’m wearing the petite Anna locket in gold here and I absolutely love it. Personally, gold is my favorite metal and I love how this looks with my other necklace here.
You can easily upload your pictures to print at home with the Locket Bar—it makes sure that they’re the right size for your locket—so handy when first adding images, but also great when you want to update them! I like the idea of switching them as Owen get older or when our family grows. What I also love about this necklace is that it’s one that I’ll be able to pass down to a daughter (maybe!?) or some other gal in our future family!
I also love Monica’s pocket watch key necklaces, carpe diem and stars and moon collections. I have this beautiful necklace and also love this one and this one. They look so great layered together too—just make sure to get different chain lengths so they sit nicely!
Not every holiday has to be over the top, but once in a while, a surprise like this means so much! I think all my mamas would agree!
Tell me—how do you celebrate Mother’s Day? Anything that you’d love to receive this year?
