non-toxic nail polish

wearing No. 25 polish

For the first time in nearly 3 years, I painted my nails.

Who am I?!

To be honest, I didn’t not paint my nails for toxicity reasons. I wasn’t painting them out of laziness. They’d start chipping and I’d forget to take it off and they’d look terrible, so for a few years, I gave up all together!

But, after my sister’s wedding weekend, I found a bottle of Côte nail polish in my drawer that one of my Beautycounter mentors had gifted me LAST YEAR. It was the prettiest shade of red, and I was feeling springy so I went for it.

Turns out, I forget how nice it is to have painted nails. I instantly felt fancier and more pulled together. It was like I was dressed up, even when I was wearing leggings and a sweatshirt!

But, why non-toxic nail polish?

Traditional polishes often contain formaldehyde, DBP and toluene and a whole slew of other gross ingredients. But it can be so hard to navigate the clean polish world, especially when our country has VERY little regulation in place for what’s deemed safe and what’s not.

I did a little research on non-toxic nail polish brands and wanted to share the best with you, plus a few colors that are absolutely gorgeous!

Best Non-Toxic Nail Polish Brands and Colors

Côte

In my research, I learned that Côte has one of the cleanest formulas on the market—woo hoo! I found that it wears just as well as other brands too! Honestly, it made me wonder why it needed toxins in the first place!

It’s free of formaldehyde, toluene, DBT, formaldehyde resin, camphor, TPHP, xylene, ethyl tosylamide/epoxy resin, parabens, and gluten. And, they have a huge array of gorgeous colors! It sells for $18-21 a bottle.

Colors to Try: No. 1, No. 5, No. 111, No. 54, No. 2, No. 99 and No. 25 (the color I’m wearing here).

Zoya

Zoya is natural, non-toxic and 13-free (meaning it’s free of 13 of the common potentially harmful nail polish ingredients) and only $10. They have a HUGE range of colors. Like every dang color on the spectrum!

Colors to Try: Buff Perfector, Cam, Sheri, Megan

Butter London

Butter London’s formula is 8-free, vegan-friendly and the apparently the polish goes on super smooth, though I haven’t tried for myself. Maybe that’s where the name Butter comes from?! It sells for about $18 a bottle.

Colors to Try: Violet Pastilles, Mink Grey, Come Back to Bed Red, Coming up Roses, Regal Red, Smashing, Candy Floss, Frisky Business

Do you have any favorite non-toxic nail polish brands or colors you love? I’d love to hear your favorites!

BTW, 8 toxic skincare ingredients to avoid, and does natural retinol stand up to the real deal?
