Color Schemes

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I wanted to create my own abstract piece of art. I also wanted it to be huge. So I did some pinteresting and found some great inspiration pieces that I will attempt to semi-replicate, in my own style of course!

The next step was purchasing a canvas. After researching I quickly found out that 48″ by 48″ canvases are like really expensive. Around $300 to be exact. More research…. After googling ‘cheap stretched canvas,’ I found this great site that had killer prices and ordered my extra large 48″ square canvas for a whopping $69, $89 after shipping was thrown in.

And for comparison purposes, here’s what the room currently looks like, a little sad right now.

Now here I am, blank canvas and a loss at what color scheme to go with! I want this painting to be versatile and not too girly so that I can have it in a house that I may someday share with a boy.

I wanted to see how these color schemes would look on my wall, so naturally the best option was to photoshop the old painting OFF the wall and then put these in their place to see what it would look like. I even added my new cheap-o, but awesome Ikea pillows. I’ve been toying with the idea of switching out the bottom of my coffee table for hairpin legs and figured I’d draw some see what it would look like. Yes, it’s a terrible representation of hairpin legs, but it gives you the general feeling. And I’m kinda digging the look, it makes is so airy and open.

No, I didn’t photoshop Oliver in, but he really makes it convincing, doesn’t he?!

These were the two I was torn between when it came down to it. I know they are still a bit feminine, but I’ll make up for that with more manly accents in my later life. So what do you think? Which color scheme would you pick if it was your living room?

The Blue Room

I’ve been meaning to post these pics for a while. It took a lot longer than it should have to get this small room finished. But sometimes it’s the smallest projects that get put on the back burner. I apologize for the pics. The bright blue walls glare blue off everything and I’m not a pro photographer, but you get it, right?

If you don’t remember what this room looked like before, check out this post and see how far this room has come. Dark and dreary wallpaper to bright and cheery Tiffany’s blue! I actually leave the bathroom door wide open now because it’s such a beautiful happy little space.

The silhouettes are our dogs. The shih-tzu is my roommate’s dog, Laddie. And the shiba inu, Oliver, well he’s almost mine! The cowboy hat is something I collected from a Cinco de Mayo party and had laying around. It pays homage to my Texas roots I suppose. I love the pink towels that provide a nice accent color to the room too.

We’re loving it! Let me know, what do you think?

Cozamia Prints

Since moving into my new apartment, finding unique and affordable artwork and prints has been at the top of my to-do decorating list. I came across Nancy Ramirez’s Cozamia on Pinterest and fell in love. Her prints are bold, bright and can be ordered in several different sizes. Even the largest sizes don’t break the bank!

It took me a while to finally settle on two prints — The Dress & Flamingo Mingle — for two different rooms in my house, and I couldn’t be happier with my decisions. The Flamingo print in bedroom adds the perfect pop of color against blue walls and the girl in the dress really makes a statement in our dining room!

I’m thinking how perfect the small prints would be as birthday or Christmas gifts gifts. What about you?

All of her prints are gorgeous and the other 6 shown here were all on my list before narrowing it down. Make sure to check out all her work and let me know which print is your favorite and where you would put it in your house!
