3 Reasons I’ll Miss Chicago’s Winter

Chicago’s winters are brutal. Last year’s never-ending winter had me questioning why we ever moved to the city of broad shoulders. Sure, the summer is great, but was it worth suffering through weeks upon weeks of freezing and even negative temperatures and record snowfall?

I don’t miss the days when I walked Oliver wearing at least 3 layers on top and two on bottom (and I’m not counting underwear). Numb cheeks and frozen fingers are no joke either! It takes a few minutes to fully thaw out even when you’re back inside your cozy apartment, and don’t get me started on the heating bills. Last winter’s final heating bill was more than 2 months rent.

But now that sub-artic temperatures are behind us and the first signs of spring are starting to pop up around town, I’m reflecting on a few of the things that I’ll actually miss about winter (and I hope that sentence didn’t just jinx the city). For starters, this cocoon coat (now on sale for 25% off!). I consider a good winter coat an investment and last year’s was a little worn out. I picked this one up at J.Crew and have loved it so much. I almost wish I had also gotten it in the camel color too! Second, I’ll miss fresh snowfall. The snow is gross a few days later — like really gross — but on that first day, it’s perfect, quiet, still and simply beautiful. Third, I’ll miss wearing layers. I love the challenge of mixing and matching scarves and sweaters to create new outfits that are warm throughout the winter.

These were shot on one of the last chilly days of winter when Emily and I posed for some shots for Wandeleur. I wore my favorite coat, a J.Crew sweater, jewelry — a Joy Dravecky shark tooth necklace, Gorjana Mave necklace and earrings from Loren Hope — as well as my go to skinny jeans and booties. Thanks again to Kelly for capturing those (and these!) — she always does a fantastic job!
