How to Commission a Painting

Happy Monday friends, I am SO excited to finally start offering commissioned pieces! It’s an honor to have my work in your home, and I would love to be able to create something custom for you.

How to Commission a Painting

Why Commission a Piece?

You might be wondering why you’d want to commission a piece when I release multiple collections throughout the year. And, there are a number of reasons to commission a piece!

Maybe the piece you loved sold before you could grab it, or maybe it wasn’t the right size for your space. Maybe you want to work with a specific color palette or have a unique size you need. Basically, commissioning a piece allows you to customize it for your taste and needs—color, composition and size.

How to Get Started

To start the commission process, I have you fill out this form. It details the size you’re looking for, where you’re located (larger pieces may require speciality shipping), and your inspiration.

For the time being, I’m only accepting commissioned pieces for sizes 20″20″ and up. My smaller pieces will remain first come, first serve!

Commission Process

Once I receive those items, I will send you over a quote in a contract. There’s no obligation for you to sign, but gives you all the information and details you will need to know before we get started. Once a contract is signed, I will need a 50% deposit before I can get started. After that’s sent, I will order your canvas, or special order if it’s a unique size and get started.

Once your painting is complete, I will email you photos and we can discuss any changes or tweaks that need to be made. I will make those changes, present to you the final piece for your approval. If further changes need to be made, additional fees may occur.

Once painting is approved, I will sign it and seal it for protection. Once it’s dry, and final payment has been received, I will ship it! Paintings that are standard sizes (36″x48″ and under), will be shipped via standard carriers. For larger, awkward and oversized pieces, I use a freight shipping company.

From start to finish, my current timeline is about 8-10 weeks. Honestly, it may not take me that long, but with two kids, my schedule is sometimes unpredictable, so I like to give myself some wiggle room so no one is disappointed.

What to Expect in Terms of Cost

Lastly, but an important thing to consider, is how much will this cost?! You can expect commissions to be slightly higher than my typical prices due to the custom nature of them.

For those items that can be shipped via standard carriers, shipping is free. There are additional shipping charges for oversized pieces.

If you have any other questions that I didn’t answer, feel free to email me at blairstaky@gmail.com to chat further! I’m excited to finally be offering this and can’t wait to create a custom piece for you!
