As you guys know, I’ve been using Beautycounter for more than 4 years now! I love using safe products and found theirs to be so effective that I eventually joined as a Beautycounter consultant.
I’ve shared different skincare routines over the years, but I think I’ve finally nailed down the one that’s really working for my skin.
It’s been a little over 5 months since I started this current routine and my skin has never been clearer, more balanced, more hydrated and more healthy looking. For someone who used to deal with breakouts and oily skin a lot, this feels like a major, major win!
Beautycounter Skincare Routine for Morning & Night
For the most part, my skincare routine is made up of almost all Beautycounter products. Simply put, they’re safe and they work really well (scroll down for my before and after)!
Morning Skincare Routine
Step 1: Cleanse
I’m a lazy morning cleanser and actually don’t typically wash my face. I typically just splash and rinse my face with cool water to take off the product from the night before.
I used to use the Charcoal Bar, but I found that it was just too drying for my skin. While I was pregnant, I did use this on my body because I had breakouts on my back and it made a big difference. Thankfully that went away about a week after I delivered Jack.
Step 2: Tone
After I pat my face dry, I use this Hydrating Essence, which is like a toner, and adds more moisture, vitamins and minerals back to the skin. Just put about a dime-sized amount on your fingers and gently press into your skin.
This has been so helpful in restoring my skin’s natural moisture barrier, and keeps my skin from over-producing oil. Let it fully absorb before moving onto the next step.
Step 3: Treat
First up, I use this Vitamin C serum! I’ve become a loyal fan of vitamin C and it’s power to brighten and even skin tone, and vitamin C can improve the efficacy of your SPF. It’s helped with lightening up dark spots on my forehead. I highly highly recommend it!
Since moving to Denver, my skin is a lot drier, so after I use the Vitamin C, I add this Countermatch Intense Moisture Serum which is a hyaluronic acid serum that provides deep hydration and has been one of the biggest game-changers to my skin.
Hyaluronic acids, aren’t really acids, they actually bind water to your skin cells, which makes them plump up, and makes dry skin (or any skin for that matter) look more radiant. It’s helped a TON with getting rid of blackheads too, and generally helped clear my skin.
Fun fact, if you have a lot of blackheads, your skin needs more moisture! Let this absorb before applying moisturizer.
Step 4: Moisturize
Moisturizer is so important! It essentially protects your skin from the elements all day long. I use the Countermatch Adaptive Moisturizer because it’s hydrating, but really lightweight and adjusts to your skin’s moisture needs throughout the day.
Step 5: SPF
I really wish I had learned this lesson earlier in life, but now, not a day goes by that I don’t use SPF. This facial SPF is lightweight, not greasy and looks great under makeup. It’s a mineral sunscreen, but doesn’t have the tacky, heavy feeling that some do. Highly recommend it!
I’ll be the first to admit that my skin is NOT perfect, but it’s come a long way thanks to safer, cleaner products! I’m not wearing makeup in either of these images.
Nighttime Skincare Routine
Step 1: Remove Makeup
First thing’s first! If I’m wearing makeup, I always always remove my makeup before I actually cleanse my face. If you just cleanse your face without taking off makeup, you’re not really getting a good deep clean.
Step 2: Cleanse
Next, I cleanse with one of my new favorites, this Brightening Cleanser. After my last pregnancy, I had so much discoloration, so I’ve doubled down on the Brightening products! This cleanser has been amazing and the bottle lasts forever! You just take about a small almond-size amount in your fingers and massage it into your skin for at least 30 seconds.
It gets deep into your pores, and gently resurfaces skin. I’ve found that it’s been great for evening skin tone and also keeping and breakouts at bay.
Step 3: Tone
Next, I use the same toner as I do in the morning. I love this one so much! My aesthetician also highly recommend a toning essence so that made me even more confident in my decision!
Step 4: Treat
My nighttime treatment varies a bit each night because I like to switch off between two products. In March, I started using a prescription retinoid that I got from Dear Brightly. I wanted something more powerful than what I could get over the counter and I also was not interested in having to find a new dermatologist, so this was as great option for me. You upload pictures and a real, licensed dermatologist checks it out and writes you a prescription. It’s delivered straight to your door on a schedule and it’s made a huge difference in my skin!
Retinoids can be really drying, but this one has hyaluronic acid in it, so I didn’t deal with too much peeling or redness when I first started. I use it typically every other night, and on those off nights, I’ll use this Radiance Serum, or this hyaluronic acid serum for more moisture.
For both, just squeeze 1-2 pumps onto clean fingers and massage into your skin. Let it dry completely before moving onto the next step.
Step 5: Moisturize
I used to be scared of heavy night creams, but I’ve changed my tune after using this Supreme Cream for 14 months. My skin is brighter, more hydrated and fine lines are less obvious. This also has that clean retinol in it and is one of my favorites. If you need some serious hydration, grab this one!
I put a fingernail-sized amount on my fingers and massage it into my skin and neck, because my neck is always so dry too.
Step 6: Eye Cream
I love this eye cream! Rob’s even jumped on board. I only use it at night as I find sometimes it looks funny underneath makeup.
Step 7: Overnight Mask
Okay, this is a bonus step, and not something I do every night, only when my skin is feeling really parched or dry. But if you have super dry skin, this will be a game-changer. Massage an almond-sized amount of the Cleansing Balm into your skin and neck and sleep with it on. In the morning, your skin will be GLOWING! Again, I used to be nervous this would make me breakout, but no, it was quite the opposite! It can be a little greasy, so you might want to change your pillowcase after!
Step 8: Facial Oil (optional!)
Lastly, I occasionally use a face oil. I don’t use it every night because too much oil for my skin doesn’t work great, but 1-2x a week, I’ll use 2-3 drops of this Brightening Oil and press it into my skin as a final step. It’s a great one for brightening your skin and smells amazing—like a basket of fresh tangerines!
Several times a week, even more so now that we’re quarantined, I love doing a face mask! I absolutely LOVE this Charcoal Mask for pulling out dirt, grime and oil from my pores and use it typically once a week. I also love this Resurfacing Mask from Herbivore and this Blemish Clearing Mask from Primally Pure.
