When it comes to shopping, my go-to spot is the internet. I suppose over the years I’ve gotten lazy and shopping from the comfort of my own home while wearing pajamas has become my new normal–especially in the winter. But, now that spring is on it’s way, I love the excuse to get outside and check out all of the different festivals, markets and shows that Chicago has to offer and I’m especially excited for this year’s One of a Kind Show. It’s coming up next weekend, April 28-30 on the 7th floor of The Mart (also known as Merchandise Mart), and if you love artisan festivals like I do, you don’t want to miss this one!
I couldn’t make it last year because we were out of town, but I’m so excited to go this year! At one point in my life, I thought that I was going to have a jewelry line, so I always find it really inspiring and cool that all the artists actually carried out their dream! Plus, festivals are really fun and are full of the most interesting and unique pieces that you won’t find in big retail stores.
I was recently introduced to artist Kelsey Grape, one of the vendors this year, and her beautiful jewelry. I love knowing that very few people will have the same piece as me and that makes it all the more special. Since they arrived, I’ve been wearing these little filagree earrings on a regular basis. I love that they match with everything and are really understated! I can’t wait to see more of her pieces in person and see what other jewelry makers are there!
A few more vendors I’m really excited about are Chandler Candle Co. and Amy Zwikel Studio—both who make home goods, as well as Scratch Goods! If you’re looking for a new candle, you need one from Chandler Candle Co., they smell amazing and really fill the room with the scent. I love their gardenia scent, but will likely be coming home with a few more. I’m also in love with this adorable macrame plant hanger from Amy Zwikel. She also makes beautiful wall hangings that add a little bohemian flair to any space. Scratch Goods, a Chicago-based beauty line will also be there! You guys know I love clean, natural beauty, and this line is totally up my alley. The peppermint lip butter is amazing and so is this charcoal mask!
Lastly, I always love finding yummy treats at festivals. In the past I’ve come home with everything from olive oils, seasoning mixes and sweet treats. Chocolate Twist will also be at the One of a Kind Show and I dare you to not come home with a bag of their sea salt caramels! Caramel is a total weakness for me and these are out of this world! They have several flavors too, so it’s worth bringing home a few to taste them all 😉
One of Rob and I’s favorite activities is attending festivals. It’s always a good dose of inspiration and so cool to see what all the local artists and craftsmen are offering! Even though Rob doesn’t do a ton of shopping, he loves to look and there’s always good food and drinks to keep him happy while I do my shopping!
