According to Psychology Today, 71% of people who made their beds considered themselves happy, while 62% of non-bed makers said they were unhappy. There was also a good list of things that bed-makers had that non-bed-makers did not. Clearly, making your bed does something good for you.
Before I knew this statistic, I was an avid bed-maker. I start my mornings by tidying up clothes on the floor, straightening items on my dresser and bedside table and of course, pulling up those sheets and nicely stacking my pillows on my bed. Maybe you think I’m a neat-freak weirdo, but it helps me start my morning with a clear head. I always feel better starting my day when it’s made. If the rest of the room is trashed, it still looks cleaner with a made bed! And if you get nothing done all day, at least you can feel some accomplishment knowing you made your bed, right?
Like any good Monday, I started by making my bed, and thought, I could really use some Euro shams behind my standard shams. These just might do the trick. What are your thoughts on bed-making in relation to productivity and happiness? Do you make your bed?
