Transitional Times
Growing up in Texas, the end of February meant that warm weather was just around the corner. While I know that’s not necessarily true in Chicago, my brain starts craving warm weather! I always try and force it and start pulling out some of my spring-inspired pieces in hopes of making the transition to the next season. As if me wearing sandals is going to make the sun come out and the temperature go up 20 degrees… I can dream, right?!

But seriously, having some transitional pieces in your wardrobe can be seriously good for the brain. Sunshine and warmth make me happy and if my brain is somehow tricked into thinking those things are on their way, I’m much better off. The trick is mixing your winter pieces with your spring pieces so that you don’t look totally ridiculous and you’re still warm enough. Here I paired a cozy parka with a sleeveless sweater (the best of both worlds!), ripped jeans, this color block bag (I’m in love with the colors) and these tasseled sandals that I’m totally smitten with.

Let’s talk about these jeans for a quick second though. I’ve been on the hunt for a pair of ripped jeans that I really love for a while and finally I stumbled across this pair when I was shopping at Nordstrom the other day. Last time I checked their site, a bunch of sizes were backordered, but you can also find the exact same pair here (plus super fast free shipping & returns). They’re just fitted enough so that they look just as good when I dress them up as when I wear them casually — oh, and did I mention they’re only $88?! I can’t tell you the last time I bought a pair of jeans for that price and actually loved them.

Lately I’ve found that it’s not only my wardrobe that’s ready to transition. I’ve been playing around with the decor in our house and found some amazing pieces at South Loop Loft that I really want to incorporate into our place. As you can see, the indoor shots are from there and it’s absolutely gorgeous! How amazing is that green velvet couch? It’s always been a dream of mine to own one, but I’m not really sure Rob will go for it. The pink and blue rug is seriously calling my name too! If only I had more hallways for that stunning runner.
In between our shoots, we sat by the fireplace and browsed the beautiful showroom. If you find yourself in Chicago, you must stop by South Loop Loft — they’re open on Saturdays from 11-5 or by appointment! While I’d love to redo everything, right now I’m doing some rearranging and organizing of our house and maybe I’ll move my desk again!
Do you get the itch start switching things up this time of year? Do you find that slowly transitioning your wardrobe makes winter seem a bit shorter?
P.S. I’m extra excited that this week is here because my sister Katherine is coming to visit and arrives on Thursday! I’m also checking another one of my resolutions off the list and taking a sewing class in the middle of the week, stay tuned! How are your resolutions holding up?
