It’s no secret that I absolutely love making our house a home. We moved into our English cottage-style home in Denver a little over three years ago and I love going back and seeing the photos from before we moved in and realizing just how much we’ve made it our own over time.

Lately, I’ve been really leaning into the more traditional, cottage-style of our house. There’s just something so cozy, collected and comfortable about cottage-style homes and now I’m on a mission to make our place feel just like these spaces I’ve come to love so much.

A big part of that is mixing old and new to create spaces that feel lived in, but still fresh and inviting. Adding vintage-inspired pieces has become one of my favorite ways to bridge that gap.

One place that should absolutely feel cozy is your bedroom! Hence my love for these vintage-inspired quilts and bedding sets that give the vibes and aren’t going to break the bank.

Vintage bedding, with its classic patterns and timeless appeal, adds a touch of nostalgia to your bedroom. When you’re aiming for a cottage-inspired aesthetic, this vintage charm can seamlessly merge with rustic and new elements and create a tranquil and inviting atmosphere.

Here are some key aspects of vintage bedding that work wonders in a cottage-style setting:

What to Look for in your Vintage Bedding

Floral Patterns

Vintage bedding often features delicate, floral patterns that harken back to a bygone era. These designs bring a touch of the English countryside to your cottage-style home, evoking feelings of serenity and simplicity.

If you live with a dude who’s not into the overly floral patterns, mix and match with some stripes or windowpane pattern to balance it ou.

Soft, Muted Colors

Vintage bedding typically employs soft, muted colors like pastels, earthy tones, and faded blues. These shades harmonize well with the earthy and natural colors often found in cottage decor, enhancing the overall ambiance.

For someone who loves both bold bright colors and neutrals, these soft, muted tones are often the perfect compromise. It allows you to bring color into your home without it feeling like someone is screaming at you.

Vintage Textures

Look for bedding materials that exude a vintage texture, such as linen or cotton. These textiles give your bedroom an inviting, tactile quality that complements the tactile warmth associated with cottage-style homes.

These bedding sets look amazing in person—I checked them out in my local Target and got to feel them—their legit!

Intricate Details

Vintage-inspired bedding often features intricate details such as delicate patterns and quilted details. These add a touch of romance and craftsmanship that fits perfectly in a cottage setting, where handcrafted items are treasured.

How to Incorporate Vintage Bedding in Your Cottage-Style Home

Now that you understand the allure of vintage bedding, it’s time to consider how to incorporate it into your cottage-inspired decor. Here are some tips:

Mix and Match

Don’t be afraid to mix and match vintage bedding with other elements in your cottage-inspired bedroom. Pair it with rustic wooden furniture, soft, faded paint colors, and other vintage-inspired decor pieces to create a cohesive look.

I like to bring in a mix of old and new so that it doesn’t feel too grandma, but personally I avoid overly modern pieces as they just don’t flow together.

Layering

Layering different textures, such as a vintage-inspired quilt or coverlet over your vintage sheets and pillowcases, adds depth and visual interest to your bedding. It also keeps you cozy during chilly cottage nights.

Vintage Accessories

Complement your vintage bedding with other vintage accessories like wallpaper, antique mirrors, or vintage photographs in ornate frames. Again, don’t go overboard or your modern cottage design can quickly go grandma!

Soft Lighting

You know that IG trend—”we never turn on the BIG light”—there’s a reason for it. That overhead lighting can be harsh and bright. When you install soft, ambient lighting fixtures, such as chandeliers or vintage-style wall sconces, and lots of lamps, you can quickly enhance the vintage charm of your cottage-style bedroom.

Vintage-inspired bedding is a perfect addition to a cottage-style home, where a sense of nostalgia and warmth reign supreme. Its classic patterns, muted colors, and intricate details create an atmosphere of timeless charm and comfort.

By mixing and matching, layering, and adding other vintage-inspired decor pieces, you can complete the cottage look in your bedroom, making it a place of refuge and relaxation in the heart of your cozy cottage home. So, go ahead, choose your vintage bedding, and go to bed feeling cozy every night!
