It gets so hectic and busy, and this year more than ever before, I’m just wanting peace, calm and to really take this time to enjoy the season and being home with family.
I don’t know what it is about this year—maybe it’s that I’m getting holder and less likely to get caught up in the hoopla of the season or the sales as a blogger (though, I will be sharing those too) and more if you’re on my holiday list and want them! But, I just want Owen’s 2nd holiday season to be really really fun and relaxing.
Here’s a few ways I’ve been taking extra time to enjoy the season and more than anything, just give myself a break.
Take a Book to a Coffee Shop & Read
I’ve always loved this one in theory, but when I try to do it, I get too caught up on all the other things I haven’t done yet and it just doesn’t happen. But, last week, I did it! I had an hour after an appointment before I went home and instead of squeezing in work, I just ordered a tea and read my book. It was so relaxing and just what I needed!
Leave my Phone on Silent
In our digital age, it’s hard to get through a meal without someone picking up their phone to look at it, show you something, snap a pic, Instagram or text. But, when I do keep my phone away and everyone else does too, OMG, amazing stuff happens guys. Conversation, real, deep conversation that not-reliant on a meme or funny picture. Just the good ole stuff we used to chat about.
Be With People More
The holidays are one of my favorite times of year, but can be oddly lonely. Especially if you’re single, live alone, or are like me and work from home by yourself on a regular basis. Nothing makes me happier than being with humans. Even taking a 10 minute break at the coffee shop to talk to the person across from me (yes, I’m totally that girl that does that) can totally spin my mood and outlook. We’re meant to communicate and be with people and when we do that, it’s so good for our souls.
Spend a Day in your Pajamas
Does it sound lazy? Kind of. Do I care? Nope! Sometimes you’ve gotta have one of those uber lazy days where you wake up late and just hang around the house all day. When I do this, I live in these slippers—actually, I pretty much wear these around the house constantly whether I’m in real clothes or pjs.
Take a Day Off
I’m the worst at this! I think when you have a business at home that is dependent on your being active on social media, frankly, one thing I really don’t love about my job, it’s hard to truly take a day off. But, I think it’s so important for our well-being to take some time for ourselves, and sometimes that means a week day. It’s really nice to be alone on a day when everyone else is at work! Take it to do some holiday shopping, go get a massage or your nails done, meet a friend for lunch or just hang out at home and take a nap.
I still can’t believe we leave for Thanksgiving on Sunday! I’m thrilled to be getting to spend a whole week at home with my parents and sisters and extended family! It’s going to be SO much fun! My to-do list does feel a little daunting this week, but knowing that getting it done means next week we’ll be easier, than I’m all in.
What little things do you like to do to enjoy the season or just slow down a bit? What are your Thanksgiving plans?!
