4 of My Favorite Spots in Chicago

Before we left for California a few weeks ago, I was feeling a little, blah. Again, I blame the weather. I hate that I talk about the weather so much, but it has such a big impact on my mood, it’s hard not to! So after several grey days, I was in need of a feel good day, so I called Shaheen and made a plan to stop by three places I love that I knew would help pull me out of my slump.

Since we don’t own a car, I rented one through Enterprise CarShare and headed out for a fun day. If you’re not familiar with Enterprise CarShare, it’s a membership-based rental service that allows you to view and book vehicles in your area 24/7—the app is so easy! You can rent vehicles by the hour or for the day, like we did. It’s perfect for days when I have lots of errands to run around town or a day out with friends! After I picked up Shaheen, our first stop was C.C. Ferns. It’s an adorable little coffee shop in Humboldt Park that’s equal parts cozy and stylish. They also serve Donut Vault Donuts, which I was really excited about, but unfortunately they were sold out by the time we got there! So, if you want a donut, arrive early! Even without the sweet treat, it was so nice to start our morning a little slower over a cup of coffee and catch up on life. I don’t do this enough and every time I do, I’m reminded why taking just an hour to catch up with a friend every once and a while is so good for my heart.

After coffee, we drove over to Lincoln Park, the first neighborhood I lived in when I moved to Chicago, and stopped into the Lincoln Park Conservatory. I know I’ve mentioned this place before, but it still remains one of my favorite places in the city—especially during winter. I know, I know, it’s technically spring, but that doesn’t mean much in Chicago! We walked around a bit and enjoyed the warmth and plants in full bloom. This place is seriously like a mini tropical getaway!

Our next stop was one of our favorite lunch spots, Beatrix! I’m so thankful Shaheen loves it as much as I do because I can never get Rob to go as often as I’d like. They have two locations downtown and are opening another one in West Loop—yum! They have the best salads, sandwiches and juices, and also an amazing brunch! It’s a spot that I always recommend to friends when they visit.

After lunch, we made our way to my last favorite spot of the day—Soho House. I usually come here a couple of times per week to work. It’s always a good change of scenery, gets me inspired and I always end up running into someone I know which is fun! Even if you’re not a member, The Allis, which is on the first floor, is absolutely stunning. They have a huge, equally beautiful place and a full menu, coffee and drinks! What I really love about Soho is that it feels like a living room—a bigger, nicer version of course—but it feels very homey and comfortable.

After I got home, I felt so refreshed and happy! Spending a day visiting a few of my Chicago favorites was exactly what I needed to pull me out of my slump. Thanks to the car, it was stress-free and relaxing! Best of all, we had fun and we were productive! I need to be better about scheduling days like this because I always leave feeling a million times better!

Do you schedule days where you just allow yourself to relax and do what you want? How do you get around town?
