Last month was so crazy for me. Not only was I traveling 3 of the 4 weekends, but I also had one of the busiest months of work I’ve had in a very long time. These last few days were also jam-packed full of more work, but finally things seem to be slowing down and I’m finding more balance in my days.
I wish it wasn’t so hard to not get caught up in the craziness, but it always seems to sneak up on me. Things I typically love to do, suddenly become chores. For example, going on a long walk in the morning with Oliver puts me in the best mood. Seeing him covered in sand with a huge grin across his face after sprinting down the beach is priceless. How could you not be happy after seeing that? It’s hard, but when I’m stressed, his every pause and sniff of the ground can make me so frustrated. I hate it. I really do hate that I can get like that, and I’m really trying to no longer sweat the small stuff. Like those 5 minutes were really going to make or break my day, right?
I also love going to yoga. It’s not only a great workout, but it’s a stress-reliever and manages to keep me from getting sick. I suppose the heat makes me sweat away any germs. But again, on those super busy weeks, I can’t manage to get myself there, which is so dumb, because the reality is that it would probably make me feel better to go and give myself a little ‘me time’.
So back to finding balance. For me, the first step is not taking on too many clients at once. Seems like an easy one, but it isn’t always that simple. I always start with good intentions and then end up over-booked and, you guessed it, stressed. This fall, I’m hoping to set some firmer goals and stricter outlines for myself and my work schedule to avoid burnout and exhaustion. I’m also going to make time for some of the other projects that I’ve been wanting to work on, but haven’t managed to find the time (think DIY projects, sewing and painting). Oh, and actually train Oliver after all those classes at Anything’s Pawsible.
I’m sure it will be a bit of a process and every day won’t be perfect, but that’s just life. Today’s balanced morning will start with a good long walk, quiet time and a cup of coffee before I even think about work. Even though I won’t be able to stamp out every unexpected thing that happens in my day, this is how I like to start my days. So tell me, how do you find balance in this crazy world?
