I’m all about a festive, at-home celebration, but making this holiday feel special, feels especially important this year. I mean, at the very least, it needs to be special to differentiate it from all the other days and meals we’ve eaten at this table lately.
So, for Mother’s Day, I’m thinking we’re not just going to make one meal fancy, we’re pulling out the good plates for every meal!
Back in February, I was invited to a beautiful event with MacKenzie-Childs, and all of my new pieces just arrived and they are stunning. It’s a brand I grew up with and has such a special, nostalgic place in my heart and I’m so excited to finally have my own collection!
My mom has a huge collection, and growing up I remember her getting new, unique pieces at different holidays. We’d use them for fancy dinners, and I loved when my mom would pull out the bowls for dessert, just because. It always felt so special.
This year we’re hoping to buy our very first place—timing is TBD as I’m sure you can imagine. Having my own collection of MacKenzie-Childs pieces to display and use in our future home feels extra special. I felt like such a grown-up with this table set-up! I can’t wait to host friends and family in the near future!
How to Celebrate Mother’s Day at Home
So, even though we’re celebrating without our moms, our Mother’s Day will still feel very much like home, which is exactly what I need right now!
Set the Table
I’m so excited to be using all of my new MacKenzie Childs pieces for our table scape. I look forward to future Mother’s Days when I have 8 people sitting at a big table, but for now, I’m so grateful to have my little family here with me.
At the event, we got to see so many different collections, and they two that I couldn’t stop obsessing over were the Courtly Check and Flower Market—but how to pick just one?! Turns out they look amazing layered together, so I opted to get a combination of both.
I love the classic black and white checks and soft, feminine and slightly boho touch the florals bring in. A perfect balance in my mind, and not too girly for all the boys in my family, ha!
Everyday Bowls
Some of my other favorite pieces that I’ve been using a ton are the Everyday Bowls—I have 4, one in each size, and they nest together and are so perfect for everything from mixing to salads to prep to storing fruits and veggies on the counter. I wasn’t expecting to use those so much, but I’m obsessed!
A Simple Brunch Menu
For brunch, I like to keep it simple and uncomplicated! Plus, I know what we like, so that makes it easy!
- Avocado Toast with fried eggs & canadian bacon on my homemade sourdough
- Fresh Berries
- Banana Bread
- Cappuccinos
Enlist Help
It is Mother’s Day after all, and you shouldn’t have to do the whole thing by yourself! While, I’ll be doing some of the cooking, I opted for a simple menu that Rob could help prep. Owen’s job? Put the forks on the table! This has been his nightly job during quarantine, and I love that he gets to be a part of it and feel like a big kid.
Mother’s Day Gifts
I also wanted to share some of my favorite gift ideas from MacKenzie-Childs. I think we can all agree that a little something that brightens our days is such a treat. Whether or not your mom (sister, wife or whoever you’re celebrating!) has a MacKenzie-Childs collection, they make for perfect gifts. A single piece can make such a statement and who knows, may kick start their own collection!
I sent this butter box to my mom to add to her collection—hers actually broke and she’s been meaning to replace it for years. Hopefully she’ll get to put it to good use soon!
Also, on my list for Mother’s Day? Some well-deserved quiet time! I’m kicking my boys out of the house for an hour so I can relax, read and drink my coffee uninterrupted!
Do you have any MacKenzie-Childs pieces? Which collection is your favorite? And, what are your Mother’s Day plans this year?
Thanks to MacKenzie-Childs for sponsoring this post! Thank you for supporting the brands that help make The Fox & She possible!
