How We Got Our Evenings Back

After a full day of taking care of baby, then running around the house doing chores and trying to squeeze in a little work or a workout, I’m exhausted. That catchy phrase, “the struggle is real” feels like my personal tagline some days, ha! By the time Rob gets home, all I really want to do is pour a glass of wine, hand off Owen to him and sit in my room in silence.

The last thing I want to do is start prepping dinner. It’s sort of crazy for me to even type those words, because I actually love to cook. I even went to culinary school after college for a year! It used to be one of my favorite times to relax, unwind and get creative. Now, it can feel like a burden.

I still love the actual cooking process, it’s just everything else that comes with it—coming up with a week’s worth of ideas, making a grocery list, finding time to go to the grocery and then coming home to unpack it all and actually cook it. Half the time, if I make it to the grocery store, I end up just wanting to order takeout that night because I’m too dang tired!

But, when I skip the parts of cooking dinner that I don’t enjoy, it makes it a lot more fun and less stressful. I’m sure you’re familiar with meal boxes, but have you actually tried them? They are amazing and exactly why I partnered with Hello Fresh!

It’s been so great to not have to think when it comes to dinner, and has made our nights a lot more relaxed and enjoyable as well. Another way our nights have become more enjoyable is moving Owen’s bedtime up. Now he goes to bed at 7:30, and once he’s down, Rob and I can enjoy our meal together like real adults. It’s just a little thing, but those little moments can mean so much and I’m so happy we got our evenings back, especially since we’re still working on that whole sleeping through the night thing!
