Taking Paint to the Floor

It’s not even close to being spring in Chicago, but yet I find myself dreaming of enjoying my breakfast or a glass of wine on the patio with warm air swirling around me. It’s a very good feeling. Last year my patio went from being a hodge-podge of random furniture that the last tenant left to looking more put together after I purchased a seating set from Home Depot.

This year, it’s time to take it one step further. The patio floor is bare, raw wood right now that’s very unexciting. It’s been stained by paint spills from previous projects, things that were there before, and Oliver did a have a few accidents out there as a puppy. Anyway, it’s just kind of gross.

I had thought about white-washing it last year, but after finding these awesome inspirational floors, I think I’m going to do more than just lay a single color down. How incredibly cool are these floors?? I love that they substitute for a rug, are probably cheaper and definitely easier to clean.

Right now, I’m leaning towards stripes. It’s a small space and I’m a bit worried that a large pattern will take to much attention. Thoughts?

Back to those stripes…maybe grey and white? Maybe something more adventurous? The patio seating white wicker with green cushion (pillows are a whole new topic!) and the table has a terracotta base and mirrored top. I wish I had a good picture, but right now a description is as good as I can do. It’s dark outside and everything is covered in dust, snow and ice.

What do you think? Would you paint your wood floors — indoor or outdoor? And what would you cover the patio floor with?
