My nightly routine has become one of my favorite parts about getting ready for bed each night. Reading a few chapters of my book and sipping sleepy time tea rank up there as relaxing night-time activities too, but my nightly skincare regimen is definitely my favorite part.
It’s sort of like doing a mini spa treatment just before bed—obviously not a bad way to end the day. And, knowing that I’m doing something good for my skin makes me enjoy it even more!
The only new year’s resolution that I’ve really kept, is taking care of my skin. It’s worked too. I no longer take any prescription medicine and my skin is clearer than it’s ever been in my life. My skincare routine aims to prevent breakouts, but more than anything, it’s been about preventing aging. Now that I’m almost 30 (say, what?!) I’ve realized that all those summers spent laying by the pool without SPF on my face was a poor choice, so now I’m working to reverse it.
I started using night cream and eye cream in January and recently added one more thing—a serum. I’d done some research and found that adding a serum just before your night cream and give you even better results so I figured I’d try. Why not, right? I recently added two serums to my nightly routine, Advanced Clinicals Retinol Anti-Wrinkle Serum and their Collagen Instant Plumping Serum. I’d fallen in love with the Advanced Clinicals Coconut Moisturizing Cream, it works so well and smells amazing, so I wanted to try more of Advanced Clinical’s products.
I don’t use both each night, but instead I’ve alternate between them, and this week I’ve actually been using the Retinol Anti-Wrinkle Serum at night and using the Collagen Instant Plumping Serum in the morning to wake up my skin.
What is retinol and what does retinol do? Retinol is a form of Vitamin D and helps smooth those fine lines and wrinkles! It’s actually been clinically proven to fight the signs of aging and my dermatologist once told me that all the girls in her clinic use retinol for that reason alone! The Retinol Anti-Wrinkle Serum has that potent ingredient and is totally worth trying. The Collagen Instant Plumping Serum makes my skin look fuller and more awake, which is why I’ve started using it in the morning just before putting on my moisturizer.
If you have dry skin, I’d recommend trying the Hyaluronic Serum! It keeps skin moisturized and helps smooth fine lines. I’m thinking about getting the Tea Tree Oil as well for breakouts—I’ve heard it works like a charm!
Oh did I mention how affordable these are? Some serums go for over $100 and these are just $15 each for a 1.75oz. bottle. Since you only use a few drops each night, they last forever! Okay, well not forever, but for a very long time!
How to Apply
After I’ve washed my face and applied a toner, I put a few drops of serum on my fingers and massage it into my skin. I let it set for a few minutes, usually I brush my teeth at this point, then I put on my night cream and eye cream.
After using it for several weeks, I can definitely tell a difference. It’s not an overnight change, but that’s the thing with skincare, you have to use it on a regular basis. But, I can promise that after several weeks of using it, you’ll be able to see and feel a difference, so stick with it!
Do you have a nightly skincare regimen? What products do you swear by?
