I always love this question. I think it’s fun to hear how a couple (dating or married) met and how long they’ve been together, the ups and downs they went through to get there. Every story is so different, unique and further proof that there’s no exact science when it comes to making a good relationship.

Just this past weekend my friend Megan and I were talking about her and her boyfriend Corey. I invited her to come to a New Year’s Eve party with us and low and behold, Corey was there. We didn’t know him either, but they hit it off and have been together ever since.

It’s crazy to think that if she had decided not to go to that party, their relationship, and likely our trip to Sonoma, may never have existed.

Timing is everything, isn’t it?

I look back at Rob and I’s first encounter and laugh too. We met at a frat party our sophomore year and at the time he was dating someone else. Even after their relationship ended, Rob and I were only friends. If you had come from the future to tell me that I would marry him many years later, I probably would have laughed in your face, but then again, I never thought I would have left Texas.

After college, a group of our friends went backpacking through Europe for six weeks. Somewhere in the middle of our trip, Rob told me he wanted to take me on a date when we got back to Texas. I was surprised, but excited, and by the end of the trip, we were basically dating. When we got home, he did take me on that first date — sushi. Again, timing was such a factor in our relationship. I don’t think it would have worked in college, but isn’t it funny how everything can change so quickly?

Rob and I’s story isn’t particularly unique, but it’s ours and I love it.

So, how did you meet your person? Did you know quickly that they were a keeper or did it take a while?
