If you’ve done any online shopping or browsing, you know that chocolate brown is a hot color this season and I’m here for it which is exactly why I’m sharing a few favorite brown sweater outfits to get you inspired!
Brown sweaters have those warm cozy vibes and are incredibly versatile. I recently picked up this 100% cashmere sweater from Quince for under $100—easily one of my best purchases this year. It’s incredibly soft and beautiful quality and the price can’t be beat for cashmere!
One thing to note on sizing is that it runs a bit small. I normally wear a small and went with a medium here and would absolutely suggest going up one size from normal. The medium fits perfectly.
I’ve bought several sweaters from Quince and continue to be impressed with the quality and price. If you haven’t checked them out yet, I highly recommend taking a peek!
Now, onto styling a brown sweater! I’ve worn two different sweaters here—one is that long sleeve Quince one I mentioned above and the other is a sleeveless mockneck one with structured shoulders that I bought last year on Amazon and wear a ton! So much that I also have it in black.
7 Brown Sweater Outfits to Try
With Wide Leg Jeans & Ballet Flats
To style wide leg jeans with a brown sweater, opt for a tailored pair of light or medium wash jeans to create a balanced silhouette. If your jeans are too dark and your sweater is dark, they might blend too much creating a monotoned, flat look.
Pair this with chic ballet flats for a polished yet comfortable look. Here I went with red flats for a pop of color, but neutrals would also look great. Consider adding a statement belt to define your waist and elevate the overall outfit. This can also help if your wide leg jeans are baggy as this will create more shape.
To complete the look, accessorize with minimalistic jewelry—my go-to is gold because it pulls out the warmth of the brown. Throw on a structured handbag and call it a day.
Layered Over a Dress
Layering a brown sweater over a dress is a fantastic way to transition your summer wardrobe into fall. By adding this cozy piece, you not only enhance the outfit’s warmth for cooler days but also infuse a stylish, layered look that extends the wearability of your dresses well into the autumn season.

I love this midi dress that I snagged this summer and the blue looks so fun with brown. Pair it with sneakers, ankle boots or loafers to complete the look and keep your summer favorites in rotation so your wardrobe is bigger without having more stuff.
With Cream Trousers
For a chic fall look, style your brown sweater with cream trousers to create a sophisticated contrast. Complement the outfit with brown loafers and a matching belt to maintain a cohesive color palette, while adding a structured bag in a similar shade for added polish. This combination not only exudes elegance but also offers comfort and warmth for the season.

With a Denim Midi Skirt
This denim midi skirt was one of my most-worn pieces this summer so you know I’m doing what I can to wear it into fall too! Add a brown sweater and tuck in the front to create definition at the waist. Add ballet flats or loafers to complete the look.

I’m loving these pointed red ballet flats so much because they’re so comfortable and add such a fun pop of color to a neutral outfit. For chilly days, throw on a long camel coat for a polished and refined outfit.
With Cropped White Jeans or Corduroys
That age old rule to put your white away after Labor Day is a hard-pass for me. Maybe the stark whites, but creamy whites and bone colored pants are great for fall and winter. They feel so fresh and crisp during these colder months.
For a chic and effortless look, style wide-leg cropped white pants with a brown sweater to create a fresh contrast that highlights both pieces. To complete the outfit, opt for ankle boots or stylish loafers in neutral tones, which will add sophistication and keep the focus on the color combination while providing comfort. For a more casual vibe, you could also pair this with white or colored sneakers.

With a Flowy Midi Skirt
Yet another way to keep wearing those summer pieces into the cooler months. Pairing a brown sweater with a flowy boho midi skirt creates a beautiful balance between cozy and carefree, making it a fantastic transitional look for breezy fall days.
This combo is comfortable and effortless making it pretty perfect for so many occasions! For those early fall days that can still get pretty warm, roll up your sleeves and pair with a strappy sandal. And as it gets colder, swap for ankle boots.
I hope this gives you plenty of ideas on how to style your brown sweaters this season!
