4 Things I Love About Being a Woman
As a female, October is somewhat bittersweet. It’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month which is great since it brings attention to the cause, but it’s also a time to remember the women in our lives affected by the disease. I’ve been seeing promotion for cancer research and I recently saw a huge group of women walking with pink boas to support breast cancer awareness. The NFL has also started wearing pink accessories which they do every October, so even the males get involved.
Though men can get breast cancer, it’s much more prevalent in females, and this month seems to add extra girl power to the world. The energy from people supporting the cause is felt all month long and it’s beautiful! It (plus the videos I’ve been seeing from Beyonce’s current tour) got me thinking about the empowerment of women and how lucky I feel to be one. Even to have a women running for president—no matter our political views—is a very cool thing for women, in my opinion.
To keep the girl vibes going, I wanted to share some of my favorite things about being a woman:
I’ve always liked the quote “Here’s to strong women. May we know them, may we be them, may we raise them,” anyone else? It takes incredible strength to be a female, and I love the idea of surrounding yourself with positive, strong ones. A lot of women raise children while maintaining relationships and jobs, all while keeping their families life together and trying to fit in fun. In general, women have to work harder than men to get paid the same, and that right there is a sense of strength that males—as of now—don’t necessarily have to deal with.
2. Ability to change it up
Though it sucks having to spend time on hair, nails, makeup, etc., it’s fun! Women have the option to grow our hair long or short, change our makeup routine, cover a zit with foundation, experiment with products—all things most men either don’t care about or are too shy to try. I personally enjoy changing up my routine, playing with beauty products, and the need to add wine to every face-mask night, obviously.
Sure, guys can be kind too, but woman have an innate sense of care and kindness. Whether we’re talking to a stranger or helping a friend who is sick, the maternal instincts in women is wonderful! We have big hearts and it shows, and I appreciate the softness that women add to this sometimes harsh world.
Just like beauty products, we get to obsess over and have fun with fashion! We take our wardrobe seriously and commit to looking and feeling our best. I love that women can connect over something like a handbag and instantly develop a friendship just by wearing a similar shoe.
Is anyone else feeling extra empowered this week? I’d LOVE to know what you enjoy about being a woman—please share!
